Assistant/Associate Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Clinical Trials

The Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR) at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and innovative faculty member to join our team. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to pioneering research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and clinical trials. This role will focus on developing and applying AI-driven methodologies to enhance the design, implementation, and analysis of clinical trials, with a particular emphasis on improving patient recruitment, trial efficiency, and outcome prediction.

As a faculty of CAIR, you will join a vibrant research community at the forefront of AI innovations in healthcare. You will have the opportunity to lead cutting-edge research, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to developing AI-driven solutions that improve clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and collaborate on research projects that apply AI techniques to optimize various aspects of clinical trials, including patient recruitment, data analysis, and outcome prediction. 
  • Secure external research funding through grants and industry partnerships. 
  • Publish high-impact research in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at leading conferences. 
  • Contribute to the educational mission of CAIR by mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty, and teaching relevant courses.  
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to translate research findings into practical applications that improve the efficacy of clinical trials. 
  • Collaborate with clinicians, AI researchers, biostatisticians, and other stakeholders to integrate AI solutions into real-world clinical trial settings.
  • Provide input on potential partnerships and collaborations with external entities offering unique AI capabilities/technologies.

Qualifications: 

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent in computer science, biomedical informatics, statistics, or a related field with a strong focus on AI applications. 
  • Proven track record of research excellence demonstrated by publications and successful grant applications. 
  • Expertise in AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, with applications to healthcare and clinical trials. 
  • Experience in clinical trial design and analysis, or a strong interest in developing such expertise. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment and engage with both academic and industry partners.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in leading or participating in clinical trials.
  • Demonstrated success in securing external research funding.
  • Strong programming skills and experience with relevant AI and statistical software.
