Principal Scientist - Computational Biology

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. The Computational Biology group in the Center for Technology and Innovation (CfTI) within the Precision Medicine organization at Amgen is looking for a highly motivated Computational Biologist with expertise in clinical bioinformatics, biomarker development, assay development, ML algorithms & data science, statistical modeling, handling clinical data sets, and a background in biology and computational sciences. This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role preferring experience within matrixed environments representing the function and requiring the development of methods and familiarity with clinical trials to support the entirety of the clinical portfolio at Amgen, with a focus on Heme-Oncology. This role will play a critical part in advancing Amgen's Precision Medicine initiatives by developing and applying computational methods to support personalized treatment strategies. This includes the development of clinical biomarkers, patient stratification, and the application of knowledge discovery and data mining techniques to uncover novel insights from clinical trial data. In this vital role you will:

  • Support the development of clinical biomarkers supporting Amgen programs through the formulation and execution of biomarker data analysis
  • Perform assessment of biochemical coverage, patient stratification, indication selection in Amgen’s early and late clinical development programs and discovery of clinical insights at asset and portfolio levels through the application of knowledge discovery and data mining techniques
  • Conduct exploratory analysis of clinical trial biomarker/omics data, public/consortium data, and other relevant datasets to uncover novel insights and support clinical programs.
  • Develop translational informatics analysis methods to enable the analysis of NGS data/Epigenomics assays/single-cell assays from clinical trials
  • Develop translational informatics analysis workflows in a high-content, multi-omics, multi-modal data domain encompassing genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and epigenomics domains
  • Work with biologists, especially in Heme-oncology, to leverage information on targeted biological pathways along with development of computational algorithms to manage and mine internal and external genomics and other high content databases.
  • Champion and exemplify the application of knowledge graphs and modern AI/ML (including generative and transfer learning techniques and task specialization of foundational models) to enable understanding and prediction of clinical endpoints or adverse events (e.g., CRS, Neurotoxicity).
  • Represent CfTI in some Amgen program/portfolio teams as a biomarker analysis lead.
  • Participate in diagnostics assay and vendor evaluation and selection by providing inputs from computational perspective
  • Interface cross-functionally with the early development teams, assay laboratories, in-vitro diagnostics, and biomarker representatives
  • Working closely with the Reverse Translation Computational biology lead in support of reverse translational for supporting Amgen programs.
