A bit about the role

As the Data Governance Lead at the City of Casey, you'll be at the forefront of driving effective data governance across our organisation. Your role will focus on enhancing our data maturity and quality, ensuring compliance, and developing a robust data governance framework.

You'll collaborate with technical and business teams to define data policies, improve data quality, and promote a culture of data literacy. This is a key leadership position where you will shape our data architecture, improve processes, and ensure compliance with privacy laws, all while fostering a high standard of data ownership and accountability throughout the organisation.

What you’ll deliver

  • Define and maintain data architecture, policies and standards to provide a coherent and appropriate data governance framework, that links to both information and cyber security governance.
  • Work with business data owners and core data teams, in particular analytics, spatial, information management and architecture to develop and agree appropriate data governance across the organisation.
  • Work with business data owners and their teams to implement data governance and support data quality improvements.
  • Promote data literacy across the organisation and conduct training sessions and workshops on data governance best practices.
  • Define data ownership and accountability across our business and develop guidelines and principles to support this.

What you’ll bring

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related subject; information management, computer science, data analysis, statistics, engineering or similar.
  • Significant experience of data governance or related fields; analysing multiple data types and structures to effectively and efficiently manage them as a coherent whole.
  • Demonstrated ability to use highly developed communication skills to proactively engage with stakeholders to lift their understanding and ability to make best use of their data.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, manipulate and analyse varied data sets.
  • Experience with on-premise and cloud applications and data sources.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check & Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
