What you will do 

The Financial Institutions Statistics team provides analytic and subject-matter expertise to support the collection of high-quality chartered bank data to meet the Bank of Canada’s requirements, as well as international reporting commitments. You will be responsible for all aspects of data collection, validation, and publication. Using your solid programming skills, you enhance existing processes and create new data solutions to meet client requirements. You will develop subject-matter knowledge in chartered bank financial data as well as an understanding of the uses of these data across the Bank. You will effectively liaise with both internal and external partners to maintain the high quality of data products and services provided. You will participate in overlapping projects, contribute to creative solutions and new ways to advance the Bank’s analytical abilities. 

 

Specifically, you will:

  • contribute to the accurate reporting and publication of chartered bank data involving strict deadlines and to meet user requirements 
  • apply a variety of analytic tools to validate and ensure high data quality and actively seek opportunities for improving data accuracy and the overall quality of the statistical program
  • perform programming changes to scripts and formulas and create data visualizations to meet client needs and for ongoing process improvements
  • lead and participate in testing of enhancements, system upgrades or redesigns
  • maintain in-depth understanding of financial data and how it is used by internal and external users as well as keep abreast of developments in the field of data analytics
  • contribute to knowledge sharing and the development of the team’s analytical and technical skill set

 

What you need to succeed

You have excellent quantitative skills and are strong in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R, etc.). You have experience with data validation, manipulation and publication. You have experience automating processes as well as creating innovative solutions to problems. You have knowledge of financial statements and the business activities of financial institutions as well as knowledge of statistical methods. 


You are a team player who contributes to discussions and are optimistic when dealing with changes and conflicts. You use good judgement in decision-making, have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. You manage priorities and organize tasks in order to meet deadlines. You respectfully contribute your own perspectives while encouraging others to share their point of view.


Your education and experience
This position requires a university degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, economics or accounting and two years of relevant work experience (e.g., validating and analyzing financial data, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues) with increasing levels of responsibility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

What you need to know

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Reliability

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $72,070 to $84,788 (job grade 14)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at  5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers additional performance pay (3%) for those who exceed expectations. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
