The Department of Population Health at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Cancer Prevention Health Services Research Data Analyst.

Dell Medical School seeks a Data Analyst to provide data management and analysis support within the Cancer Prevention and Control Program.

Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin is searching for an expert of classical and modern statistical techniques who understands and has extensive experience in their applications to behavioral science and health services research. In a highly collaborative environment, the individual will interact with Dell Medical School Investigators conducting large cancer prevention research and service delivery projects in clinical and community settings.  

This position has an end date of 09/01/2028, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals.

Purpose

The individual will, with independence commensurate with experience, effectively engage multi-disciplinary research teams at Dell Medical School to provide professional biostatistical support for behavioral science, health services, and clinical research. An ideal candidate would be skilled in developing data analysis plans for behavioral science and clinical research studies; managing and merging multiple data sources while maintaining integrity; identifying appropriate methods for coordinating data collection; sharing data securely; developing effective research designs; assisting with IRB application development and submission; performing quality checks; and supporting data needs for internal and external reporting purposes and for manuscript development. 

Responsibilities

  • Database Development: Develop program databases, preferably in REDCap, in collaboration with the program directors, program staff and external collaborators. Maintain and check all data entry for accuracy and completeness. Provide regular reports on program database and recruitment goals. Analyze and interpret data including selection and application of statistical methods.

  • Data Analysis: Analyze data to determine trends, discrepancies or other project-specific information. Interpret research findings and assist in preparing recommendations as needed, in support of program director decision making. Compile regular reports for various internal customers, grantors and external agencies. The individual will be intricately involved in each of the behavioral and clinical studies to better understand how the data affect the outcomes of each program. 

  • Data Reporting: Effectively disseminate findings by formulating and presenting reports of results including graphical displays. Prepare data analysis and results for reporting to committee and scientific meetings, as well as external funder. Collaborate on the development of reports or manuscripts for peer-review, including but not limited to scholarly journals. Additional duties may include conducting reviews of statistical components of protocols for scientific or IRB review and/or statistical analysis plans. 

  • Compliance: Monitor data infrastructure and processes for compliance with regulatory, internal, and partner requirements needed to access or share health data.  

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Statistics or Biostatistics or very closely related field, with major coursework in statistics or Bachelor's degree Statistics or Biostatistics or very closely related field and 2 years of experience in health services or behavioral science programs/studies. Thorough knowledge and ability to use at least two common statistical software packages such as SAS, Stata, R, and SPSS. Proficiency with REDCap and how to build and maintain databases. Some experience with research designs and pragmatic approaches, Ability to perform descriptive data analysis; and to execute specialized analyses, under the direction of a PhD statistician. Excellent communication and collaborative skills, both oral and written. Interest in learning about various areas of biomedical, clinical, and population health sciences. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than two (2) years of professional experience in data management and analysis. At least two (2) years of professional experience with research related to behavioral science, health services, and/or clinical and translational data. Professional experience in data management and analysis in an educational or healthcare setting. Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills, with strong focus on Excel.  Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with large data sets, including design survey instruments, data collection processes, data analysis, and writing reports on findings of the research. Experience working in an Electronic Medical Record or similar system to track patient encounters, communications, and outcomes. Ability to interpret and articulate research findings. Strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently to complete a project. 

Salary Range

$70,000+ depending on qualifications
