Role Summary

EQ’s Global IT function has begun a transformation journey to support EQ’s transition into a stronger, more profitable, product-led business, driven by real insights and the needs of its customers.

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Architecture and Strategy, the Lead Data Architect will perform a key role in this transformation by Leading Data Architecture across the organisation.

The Lead Data Architect is responsible for defining the data architecture in alignment to business and technology requirements; the role is responsible to for leading the design and delivery of the enterprise data management framework working with wider Enterprise Architecture team and the Data Offices.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of the organisation's data architecture, including data models, database schemas, and data integration strategies
  • Manage the translation of the business requirements into data architecture specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses
  • Collaborate with the Director Data and team to identify data requirements and develop solutions to meet those requirements
  • Ensure that the data architecture supports the organisation's overall strategy and is aligned with its goals and objectives
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve the data architecture and processes
  • Work with data engineers and data scientists to ensure that the data infrastructure and processes are scalable, efficient, and secure
  • Provide guidance and support to other members of the data team to ensure that they are working effectively and efficiently
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices related to data architecture and incorporate them into our processes and architecture
  • Infuse a sense of ownership & pride amongst team members to deliver high quality work outputs
  • Institute a self-directed and high-performance culture in the team
  • Build a strong talent pipeline through hiring, internal movements, succession planning, talent reviews etc.
  • Enable a culture of continuous improvement and learning, by coaching team members and role-modelling self-development

Skills, Capabilities and Attributes

Essential:

  • Technical graduation preferably in Computer Science or Data Science
  • Knowledge of big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
  • Experience building and leading data architecture teams
  • Experience leading architecture decision making for new cloud data and integration platforms
  • Experience with Data Architecture in secure environments such as Financial Services
  • Data architecture design for complex custom software platforms and data lake/data warehouse landscapes
  • Knowledge of database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Collaboration and communication skills
  • Understanding of data integration and migration strategies
  • Technical proficiency with data-related tools and technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • A team player with a proven ability to inspire and lead.
  • Effective stakeholder communication and collaboration
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities

Desirable:

  • Preferably a Master’s / Certification in Computer Science or Data Science
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts.
  • Awareness of DevOps principles for data pipelines.
  • Understanding of data security best practices.
  • Project management skills
