These models will be used for various purposes, including research, education, monitoring, and compliance. The position will involve using cutting-edge technologies like terrestrial laser scanning, photogrammetry, and Structure from Motion (SfM), as well as advanced applications such as predictive modeling, machine learning (ML), and GeoAI to understand climate impacts, structural changes, and heritage preservation needs. This position will also assist in the development of training and in the implementation of tools across the laboratory for varied 3D and 2D imaging and modeling functions and developing digital methods for integrating 3D and related imaging into laboratory workflows as needed.

The candidate will collaborate across projects that intersect research in environmental science, archaeology, and sociocultural systems, focusing on digital heritage preservation and resilience strategies, modeling, monitoring, and related processes and application development. The role will also involve initiating workflows and data pipelines, analyzing 3D and imaging data, and providing solutions to complex problems related to heritage documentation.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage 3D models for archaeological, cultural, and natural heritage documentation.

  • Use 3D models for heritage conservation, restoration, and compliance monitoring.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on research projects related to environmental and cultural heritage.

  • Develop workflows and pipelines for 3D data processing, analysis, and feature extraction.

  • Utilize 3D scanning, photogrammetry, and terrestrial laser scanning for the creation of digital surrogates/twins to document and analyze heritage degradation.

  • Apply predictive modeling, ML, and GeoAI for data-driven resilience strategies.

  • Support inclusive approaches by integrating Indigenous knowledge into geospatial practices and documentation.

  • Present findings to stakeholders through reports, publications, virtual tours, web applications, and proposal development.
