The energy and utilities sector are undergoing an unprecedented transition where investments in infrastructure are expanding, and costs need to be controlled through intelligent efficiencies. As part of an effort to bring the benefits of data science advancements to the energy industry and improve system efficiency, the Junior Data Scientist for Energy will be responsible for the implementation and evaluation of a variety of data science and machine learning projects.  This will involve organizing, cleansing, and analysis of various data sources in partnership with industry subject-matter-experts to identify what may be used to address business goals and prepare the data for AI pipelines.  It will also involve collaborating with AI practice leaders to implement, test, and deploy machine vision, natural language processing, predictive analytics, and reinforcement learning pipelines.

The Challenge:

  • Responsible for handling the extract, transform, and load (ETL) for multi-domain data primarily related to electric utility and renewable energy systems
  • Apply various machine learning algorithms to the multi-domain data to measure the performance of the algorithm and the suitability of the training data
  • Work with convolutional neural nets, deep neural nets, federated learning, computer vision, reinforcement learning, autoencoders, and a host of natural language algorithms including Stanford CoreNLP, Spacy, Stable baselines3, Word2Vec, Gymnasium and Ray RLLib along with transformer models like BERT
  • Explore subjects like domain adaptive prototypes to examine the operational capabilities of bi-directional learning, multimodal learning, model fusion, and continuous learning both with supervised and unsupervised approaches
  • Other duties as assigned

What Sets You Apart: (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field and two plus (2+)years of relevant experience
  • Base understanding of machine learning algorithms, tools and platforms
  • Required experience in one of the following toolkits: Pytorch, TensorFlow, or Keras and working knowledge of at least three of the following: NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, Ray RLLib, Stable baselines3, Gymnasium, vow pal wabbit, Stanford CoreNLP. 
  • Understanding of programming fundamentals
  • Python proficiency
  • Self-starter and intellectual curiosity both in data science and in energy/environment domains
  • Proficiency in data exploration techniques and tools
  • Willingness and interest in learning about and working with reinforcement learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience programming machine learning algorithms for GPUs
  • General understanding of electrical engineering or electric utility domain experience
  • Trained transfer learning models
  • Ability to work with graph data for machine learning
  • Electrical Engineering or Electric Utility domain experience
  • Discernment of when and how to use machine learning regulation
  • Practice with reinforcement learning
  • Coursework or experience in reinforcement learning
  • Professional or amateur experience with robotics
  • Coursework or experience with automated optimization
  • Expereince with research and experimentation

Pay Range:

Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00
