The Institute for Innovation, Translation and Policy Research (ITPR) is set out with the vision to support the University in pioneering innovation, technology translation, and innovation policy development. With the mission to drive strategic alliances, collaborations, multidisciplinary research and development and their applications, ITPR consists of three sections, namely Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E), Technology Translation (TT), and Policy Research (PR), which will provide all-rounded business development, scientific, and policy research support for the University to respond to the challenges and opportunities worldwide and also specifically under the aegis of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s top policy priority on innovation and technology development.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator or his/her delegate, the candidate will be responsible for leading the development of a cutting-edge mobile application for automated tongue image capture, which aims to revolutionise traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnostics by leveraging AI and computer vision technologies to provide accurate and reliable tongue image capturing. The successful candidate will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from planning and execution to monitoring, user evaluation and closure, ensuring the project is completed on time, within scope, and within budget, at a newly established laboratory located at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks.

Project Coordinator (Smartphone Tongue Image Capture App Development) (at the rank of Senior Research Assistant) (23241156)

Responsibilities:

• Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and risk management strategies;
• Coordinate all phases of the project to ensure smooth collaboration throughout the development process;
• Oversee the development of the tongue image capture and analysis modules, ensuring technical solutions meet the project requirements;
• Establish and implement color correction and quality control standards to ensure the reliability of the final product;
• Guide the development team, assist in solving technical challenges, and ensure software development quality;
• Evaluate the application and optimisation of AI and computer vision technologies within the project;
• Adjust and optimise app features based on feedback from TCM practitioners;
• Organise activities to collect feedback from TCM practitioners and users, analyse the feedback, and incorporate it into project improvements; and
• Monitor app usage, collect and analyse user feedback, and continuously improve the product.

Requirements:

• A master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field;
• Proven experience in software development and project management, with a deep understanding of the full process from requirements analysis to product delivery;
• Hands-on experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision technology applications is highly preferred;
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++, and experience in cross-platform development (iOS, Android, HarmonyOS);
• Familiar with AI and computer vision technologies, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and colour correction algorithms;
• Experience with cloud server management and API integration;
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds;
• Strong problem-solving abilities and innovative thinking, capable of proposing creative technical and management solutions; and
• High sense of responsibility and strong quality awareness, able to handle pressure and challenges.

The appointment will be offered on a 1-year contract.
