Job Description

The Team

The Corporate Actuarial team conducts actuarial calculations and analyses for various valuation bases and prepare detailed earnings and capital analytics. Additionally, the team supports cross-functional projects, strategic business planning, and regulatory changes.  The team is also responsible of maintaining and enhancing valuation models, while ensuring robust system change management. All this is done by collaborating with other teams to resolve data and reporting issues, contributing to the organization’s financial reporting accuracy and efficiency.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong technical actuarial / investment background to join the S&R Deal pricing team delivering on the team’s responsibilities.

Maintain and enhance valuation models:

  • Participate in quarterly updates to policy in-force data (AXIS valuation extract); quantify, validate and explain results.  
  • Recommend and implement process improvements as needed.
  • Implement refinements and assumption changes to valuation models; quantify, validate and explain results.  
  • Perform and document system change management controls.
  • Perform actuarial calculations and analyses related to quarterly reporting activities:
  • Valuation bases include US Statutory, US Tax, US GAAP including LDTI, Canadian Statutory, Bermuda Statutory and Economic Capital.
  • Review system-generated reserves for reasonability.
  • Perform calculation of any non-system actuarial reserve adjustments and assess appropriateness.
  • Prepare earnings and capital analytics: variance analysis, quarter-over-quarter movement analysis.
  • Support other Management Information reporting requirements (e.g. Balance Sheet Pack).

Provide other actuarial support including:

  • Cross-functional system and process transformation project.
  • Support the annual strategic business planning process.
  • Develop, test, and validate impact of regulatory changes.
  • Support sensitivities and scenario testing.
  • Support year-end reporting/annual disclosures.
  •  Liaise with cross-functional  teams to resolve any data or reporting issues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area, e.g. mathematics, data science or Actuarial Science.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) with 4+ years of insurance/reinsurance experience.
  • Knowledge of Excel, Emblem, R, SQL, Python and Tableau.
  • Shows initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Provides accurate and timely updates on status of work and escalates issues appropriately
  • Participates actively in meetings, has 'meeting presence'.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective time management and multi-tasking skills
