Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.
About the team
You will be joining the Analytics Platform team of the Data Platform Group, in the Infrastructure Super Group at Canva.
The Data Platform Group aims to enable significant, scalable and sustainable value via data and insights, through building a world-class data platform and empowering Canvanauts with efficient & effective data capabilities.
The Analytics Platform team focuses on empowering Canvanauts to do their best work through creating a trustworthy, efficient, reliable self-serviced analytics platform. More specifically, The team develops and optimizes analytics and platform capabilities on the analytics platform to provide users with tools and technologies for exploring, analyzing and interpreting data to drive decision-making and achieve their business goals. The team also establish best practices for using and managing the analytics platform to enhance platform management and customer experience.
About the role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Business Value & Impact
- Lead the development of analytics and platform capability technical roadmaps and implementation with a customer centricity and value driven mindset.
- Maintain, operate, and tune platform tools and technologies (Mode, Looker, Snowpark, Streamlit, LLM services, data discoverability services etc.) to enhance customer and operational experience.
- Work collaboratively and engage across data platform and Infra teams to align capability technical roadmaps.
- Closely collaborate with Product Managers to develop product roadmap, and ensure priority and technical delivery alignment.
- Uplift & iterate data access controls framework towards finer grain controls and policy based access controls.
- Evolve observability and notification framework to improve visibility on platform’s measure of success.
- Engineering Excellence
- Contribute to enhancing best practices in developing, using and managing the analytics platform
- Contribute to up/cross skill training on usage of analytics platform in Canva’s data community
- Contribute to the growth of data platform teams, incl. hiring, onboarding, training of the fellow engineers
About you
- You have strong experience in data/analytics platform engineering.
- You have demonstrated experience in building technical strategies and roadmaps for data/analytics platform architecture & tooling across a large modern business.
- You have relevant experience in operating/supporting a data/analytics platform (e.g. production support, incidents response, platform monitoring, reliability uplift.
- You are hands-on with analytics platform tooling, preferably with: Python, SQL, Snowflake, DBT, Containers, CI/CD, Mode, Looker, LLM.
- You are highly visual & numeric with strong communication & storytelling skills and the ability to communicate highly complex information in clear and simple language.
- You have strong stakeholder empathy and customer focus with experience in coordinating stakeholders across all levels of an organisation.
- You have some experience in mentoring teams/specialties, preferably in the analytics engineering domain.
- You have led and delivered end-to-end projects, with solid understanding of the agile mindset and its ways of working.
- You have experience working in a fast-paced tech environment and managing changes & stress.
- You have strong business acumen with experience in navigating complex environments.
- You can take ambiguous problems and solve them in a structured, hypothesis-driven, data-supported way.
- You have demonstrated strategic & long-term thinking with pragmatic excellence in execution.
