What you’ll deliver with us 

As our Senior Data Scientist you will contribute to the development of a thriving AI/ML craft at Post and support colleagues to the field to unlock business value using critical thinking, analytics and AI/ML. Reporting directly into the Data Science Manager, the Senior Data Scientist will collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to transform complex problems into analytical, ML and AI solutions. This role operated across initiatives including digital self-service, digital network map, forecasting and AI/ML democratisation to name a few!
 
You will be walking into an established team, our Senior Data Scientists collaborate closely with technical and business peers to trial new approaches and productionise enterprise solutions that meet Australia Post's strategic goals of: support our people, delight our customers and communities and create a sustainable future. We have an ambition AI transformation agenda and as such is important to have experience in Agile or Kanban delivery methodologies or IT service delivery.

You’ll also be

• Providing development, thought and project leadership in one or more of the following domains: Natural Language Processing (NLP), optimisation of network operations, generative or agentic AI testing, forecasting, price forecasting.
• Lead the end-to-end development and delivery of analytics/AI solutions and support business adoption/ operationalisation.
• Design, build, train, evaluate, deploy and monitor advanced machine learning models from POC to production-grade (enterprise-scale).
• Building and enabling colleagues & broader business capability in data science/AI/ML and supporting the achievement of Australia Post's vision for AI.   
• Lead the translation of business problems into requirements that can be solved via analytics/AI.
• Comfortable working with large data sets in a hyperscale environment (GCP preferred) 
  
  

About you  

We are seeking a strong team player who can develop productive relationships with both technical and non-technical peers, breaking down barriers and influencing outcomes. You will be working with a highly skilled ML Engineering team as well as the broader Data & AI services team including Platforms, Solutions, Governance partnerships and Transformation. Outside of Enterprise Services you will collaboration with Network Operations, Retail, Customer Service, Sales, Finance, and other business teams. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who is highly enthusiastic about AI and is committed to developing in this area. This is an inclusive team where team members are encouraged to be open about knowledge gaps, which fosters a team culture of collaboration and upskilling.

You’ll also need   

• Experience with delivering data analytics outcomes that lead to actionable outcomes.  Prefer experience in an industry role with business facing work.
• Strong background in analytics with experience utilising data science approaches and forecasting.
• Experience utilising a variety analytic/AI/ML approaches with and understanding of end-to-end data analytics processes (e.g. CRISP-DM)
• Proficient in SQL, Python and MLOps platforms (Vertex preferred), including code management tools.
• Good understanding of AI/ML trends and technological advancements, especially as they relate to enterprise use.
• Critical thinker and strong communicator; able to evaluate and convey technical choices.
• Commercial understanding of operations focused industry e.g. utilities, eCommerce, logistics etc. where data is a key differentiator or value provider.
• A background or degree in a relevant discipline including engineering, science, econometrics, maths, statistics, computer science, data science etc.
