Postdoctoral Scientist - Metabolomics Specialist for Drug Safety - all genders - (Fixed-term contract 24 months)
Frankfurt am Main
Sanofi
Sanofi pushes scientific boundaries to develop breakthrough medicines and vaccines. We chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.About the job
Our Team:
At Sanofi, we leverage advanced technologies to accelerate R&D for patients and enhance patient safety throughout the entire research and development process. Join our Digital Toxicology team as a Postdoctoral Scientist specializing in Metabolomics for Drug Safety, and you'll be at the forefront of this exciting field. Your role will involve leading, developing, and applying innovative computational solutions to analyze and interpret metabolomic data, particularly from tissue mass-spectrometry imaging (tMSI). You'll work on understanding and predicting the safety of various therapeutic modalities, including proteins, antibodies, nanobodies, and synthetic molecules, through the lens of metabolomics. By leveraging advanced analytical techniques, machine learning, and mathematical models, you'll drive compound safety assessments and enhance decision-making in discovery and development projects. Your work will also involve integrating metabolomic data and other omics datasets with organ physiology models to build comprehensive quantitative systems toxicology (QST) models, providing crucial insights into compound modes of action and potential toxicities.
At Sanofi, Digital Toxicology plays a pivotal role in supporting both investigative needs and critical decision-making throughout all phases of drug discovery and development. As part of the Translational Medicine Unit, you'll collaborate closely with experts in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK), investigative toxicology, pathology, and safety pharmacology as well as computational modelers. Your metabolomics expertise will be instrumental in bridging the gap between preclinical and clinical development, simulating translational tMSI safety biomarkers, and contributing to the overall safety assessment of potential therapeutics.
Join us in this cutting-edge discipline and shape the future of drug safety through the power of metabolomics and computational toxicology.
Main responsibilities:
- Extract toxicological insights from tissue mass-spectrometry imaging (tMSI) data and develop strategies to integrate it with other omics data for mechanistic toxicity modeling.
- Create analytical workflows for tMSI data to generate hypotheses on compounds' modes of toxicity and generate predictive models.
- Collaborate with project teams in R&D and provide scientific domain expertise and contribute to preclinical/clinical safety assessment by analyzing and simulating safety biomarkers.
- Build quantitative systems toxicology (QST) models by integrating tMSI data with compound exposures and organ physiology models to develop mechanistic understanding of toxicity.
- Collaborate closely with the DMPK tMSI lab to drive innovative research.
- Participate in external consortia and symposia to keep up with current industry trends and regulatory evolution in the systems toxicology field; represent Sanofi interests and maintaining high ethical and scientific standards.
- Author external presentations and manuscripts to contribute to scientific advancement of the metabolomics/toxicology field and grow your scientific career.
About you
- Experience: Hands-on experience with omics analysis technologies, visualization tools, and mathematical modelling. Track record and demonstrated experience in developing and validating new scientific methodologies and strategies in the field of computational toxicology. Prior knowledge or experiences on metabolomics data analyses and toxicology is a plus.
- Soft and technical skills: Excellent data mining, analysis, integration, interrogation, and interpretation skills are essential, and their applications to toxicology is critical. Proficiency in programming languages for data analyses and modelling such as Python, R, or MATLAB. Natural strengths in networking and communication are also beneficial.
- Education: PhD in life sciences, computational toxicology, computational biology, applied mathematics or related fields in pharmaceutical drug discovery.
Why choose us?
- Discover the opportunity to establish new paradigms for toxicology at Sanofi and be an industry leader in the systems and translational toxicology space.
- Be part of an active, highly innovative scientific organization, having diverse opportunities to collaborate globally and be highly recognized for successes.
- Bring the miracles of science to life alongside a supportive, future-focused team.
- Discover opportunities to grow your talent and drive your career, whether it’s through a promotion or lateral move, at home or internationally.
- Start your career at an attractive location based in Frankfurt/Germany and experience our modern working environment and benefit from hybrid, flexible working time models.
“Using the power of Computational Toxicology, we are not just predicting drug safety—we are pioneering a future where innovative methodologies transform data into life-saving insights”
