The Opportunity:
We are seeking an Associate Director with a strong background in Lab Automation to join our growing team. The successful candidate will work closely with leadership and team members of Compound Management, Discovery Sciences and Lab Management to evaluate and improve laboratory efficiency, accuracy and throughput using automation technologies.
As a key member of the Discovery Chemistry Operations, you will make significant contributions to our team with accountability for the following:

Optimize Compound Management workflows and scale compound storage to increase screening capacity

Optimize protocols for liquid handling systems, including the Echo, Tecan Fluent, and Hamilton STAR

Drive strategic planning for implementation of automation technologies

Build out plan for walk-up automation, simple functional work-cells and fully integrated systems

Automate equipment data collection and analysis to enable real-time monitoring of processes, reduce equipment downtime and improve decision-making

In close collaboration with Information Sciences evaluate and deploy database systems and integrate AI into process optimization

Assist with procurement and provide training on automation systems

Ensure accurate and timely documentation, provide lab automation project updates to management and maintain effective communication with research team members
Required Skills, Experience and Education:
-
BS/MS or equivalent degree in chemical, biological, engineering sciences or related field with 10+ years working full time in a biotech or pharmaceutical lab setting

In-depth experience with operating, developing, and optimizing liquid handling systems including Echo, Hamilton and Beckman systems

Proven track record of designing and executing efficient automation processes, and building capabilities for assay development and robotics

Experience in lab automation implementation with data science and LIMS integration

Experience in recruiting and managing a lab automation expert team

An innovative team-player and leader with capacity to be effective in our dynamic and fast-paced company environment
Preferred Skills:
-
Skills in data analysis and data visualization software and automation software packages (e.g. Tableau, SAS JMP, Benchling, Solidworks, Green Button Go, Vworks, Cellario, Overlord)

Familiarity with several programming languages (Python, R, Javascript, SQL)
The base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 to $200,000 for candidates based at our headquarters in Redwood City, CA. The range displayed on each job posting is intended to be the minimum and maximum salary for the position in Redwood City and will be adjusted for the local market a candidate is based. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, market dynamics, and relevant education or training.
