What will I be doing?

  • Develop Data Visualizations: Create and implement interactive data visualizations across a variety of subject areas, including transportation planning, environmental planning (e.g., water and air quality), and regional socio-economic factors such as employment, population, housing, real estate development, health data, workforce, and education. Utilize tools like ArcGIS Online, Tableau, and custom web applications to effectively communicate data insights.
  • Build and Maintain GIS Applications: Develop and maintain GIS-based applications that support key planning initiatives, including transportation projects, environmental monitoring, and socio-economic analyses. Ensure these applications are user-friendly, accessible, and effective for diverse stakeholders.
  • Analyze and Integrate Data: Collect, process, and analyze both spatial and non-spatial data related to transportation, environmental factors, and socio-economic conditions. Integrate this data into comprehensive visual formats that support informed decision-making and policy development.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including those involved in transportation, environmental modeling, and socio-economic modeling, to identify and address their data needs. Provide customized visualization solutions, technical support, and training to enhance the effective use of data tools.
  • Innovate and Improve: Continuously seek out and implement new technologies and methodologies to advance data visualization and GIS application development. Stay current with industry trends to deliver innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of transportation planning, environmental monitoring, and socio-economic analysis.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in Data Visualization and GIS: Proven experience in creating interactive data visualizations and GIS applications, particularly in fields such as transportation planning, environmental planning (water and air quality), and regional socio-economic analysis (Data from US Census, employment, population, housing, real estate, health, workforce, and education).
  • Proficiency in Visualization Tools: Advanced proficiency in using data visualization tools such as ArcGIS Online, Tableau, and other relevant software to generate impactful, data-driven insights.
  • Data Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage, process, and analyze large datasets from various sources, ensuring data integrity and smooth integration across platforms.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, SQL, R, and SAS, particularly for data processing, analysis, and visualization, with an emphasis on automation and efficiency.
  • Collaborative and Communication Skills: Strong ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Ability to identify and address challenges in data visualization and GIS applications, developing innovative solutions that improve the accuracy, usability, and impact of these tools.

Do you have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study
  • 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school or in job related duties 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Geography, GIS, or a related field.
  • Practical experience with Python and ArcGIS, with demonstrated ability in developing data visualizations (including Tableau) and GIS applications.

Expected Hiring Salary Range

$70,000.00 – $80,000.00
