First Team Sports Scientist

Description

Working in partnership with the clubs Head of Performance, Coaching staff and Medical staff. The First Team Sport Scientist will work within the Performance Department and will have a direct and meaningful impact upon team performance, decision making and performance processes; delivering world-class sport science & physical performance support to ensure the overall wellness and performance of the Inter Miami First Team.

The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate are to lead in the areas of data science, load monitoring/management & physical capability monitoring & analysis, having ideally held a similar role within professional soccer for 4+ years. The successful candidate will be someone who has a broad and competent ability to assist team delivery across multiple performance areas such as; physical preparation, strength and conditioning, return to play and recovery sessions but with a deep, specific passion, interest and domain specialism, in sport science.

An energetic, passionate and detailed orientated team player with a forward-thinking, problem-solving approach. The first team sport scientist will be an excellent communicator and relationship builder and lead with a collaborative and proactive mentality to the role.

Requirements

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Delivers sport science and performance support for the First Team. 
• Lead in managing and developing a centralized GPS / AMS database.
• Use innovative methods to derive insights from data that help the performance & medical team make evidence-based      decisions.
• Provide analysis and reports of player load monitoring, physiological and subjective load response data, physical capability profiling data and physical game outputs. 
• Develop and streamline data analysis processes.
• Assist the Performance department to deliver day to day on field and in-gym player support.
• Develops and maintains close working relationships with coaches and support staff to ensure a cohesive multi-disciplinary approach.
• Lead the review, development, and coordination of sport science research projects. 
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experiences:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in sport science or related discipline. (Essential)
• Master’s degree / PHd in sport science, kinesiology, physiology, or a related discipline (Preferred).
• Minimum of 4 years of full-time performance delivery experience within professional sports (Essential).
• Hold a current and valid CPSS (Certified Performance and Sports Scientist) Certification from the NSCA (MLS & Inter Miami Mandatory requirement).
• Fluent in both English & Spanish (Essential).
• First Aid and CPR certification (Essential).
• Deep experience working with GPS and other athlete monitoring systems (Essential).
• Previous and significant work in soccer at a professional club or federation level.
• Experience handling and analyzing Performance data and of developing predictive models. Competency in using data science software (Tableau, Python, R, Power BI).
• Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with medical personnel, players, and coaching staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
• Possess exceptional organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize/multi-task.
• Ability to work productively under pressure, problem solve and be consistently proactive.
• Enthusiastic and energetic team player.
• Possesses a strong work ethic and friendly demeanor.
• Strong PC skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work flexible hours, including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to travel to required away matches.
