 Excellence Community Schools (ECS) is a Charter Management Organization (CMO) supporting schools in the Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Our programs are based on a proven, nationally recognized model, which originated in our flagship school, the Bronx Charter School for Excellence, a National Blue Ribbon School.

Our schools prepare young scholars to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private, and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. Position Overview

The Managing Director of Data will lead Excellence Community School’s data strategy, ensuring data is leveraged to drive student achievement, operational efficiency, and organizational growth. This role is responsible for overseeing data collection, analysis, reporting, and management to support instructional leaders, teachers, and administrators in making informed decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical background, expertise in data systems, and experience in the education sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Strategy and Governance
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the school’s mission, goals, and strategic plan.
    • Establish data governance protocols, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, privacy, and security of data.
    • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for academic, operational, and organizational metrics and regularly track progress toward goals.
  • Data Collection and Management
    • Oversee the design and maintenance of data collection systems, ensuring timely and accurate data entry and retrieval.
    • Work with IT and external vendors to implement and optimize data management systems, including student information systems, assessment platforms, and reporting tools.
    • Ensure data compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FERPA.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Lead the development of dashboards, reports, and visualizations to track student achievement, enrollment, attendance, and other performance metrics.
    • Conduct deep analyses on data trends to support instructional decisions, identify areas of improvement, and enhance program effectiveness.
    • Provide insights through data storytelling, making complex data accessible and actionable for educators, administrators, and board members.
  • Support for Instructional Data Use
    • Collaborate with academic leaders and teachers to ensure they have the data they need to personalize learning and improve student outcomes.
    • Train and coach school leaders and teachers on data interpretation, instructional planning, and data-driven decision-making.
    • Develop a data literacy program to build staff capacity in data analysis, use, and best practices.
  • Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
    • Support the evaluation of instructional programs, interventions, and initiatives by establishing metrics and conducting impact analyses.
    • Lead efforts to foster a data-driven culture within the school, promoting a mindset of continuous improvement across all levels of the organization.
    • Provide actionable recommendations based on data to guide strategic decisions and drive organizational success.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Education, or related field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in data analysis, management, or strategy, ideally in an educational, nonprofit, or mission-driven environment.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, management systems, and analytics platforms.
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python), and SQL databases.
  • Experience with K-12 education data systems, including student information systems (SIS) and assessment platforms.
  • Proven track record of leading data initiatives, with a focus on results-oriented analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex data for diverse audiences.
