The Department of Data Analytics and Information Systems in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track nine-month Lecturer, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2025. As part of USU's land grant mission to make academic programs accessible throughout the state, the positions will be physically located the USU Salt Lake Center in Taylorsville, Utah.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach hands-on courses within the department’s Full Stack Development, including Web Development and Mobile Development. Offerings cover a wide range of emerging technologies that are in high-demand in today’s workforce, full stack app development, cloud computing, database management, and DevOps. Experience and interest in teaching software development in various environments is of particular interest for these positions. The curriculum is continually expanding as industry demands change and we welcome unique course offerings from prospective candidates.
Responsibilities will also focus on student mentoring in the Analytics Solutions Center (https://huntsman.usu.edu/asc/ ), an organization within the Huntsman School of Business that offers rigorous experiential learning opportunities connecting interdisciplinary student teams with real-world problems from partner companies and organizations. Faculty mentors will provide support and technical guidance on these projects.
Successful candidates will bring industry experience with a passion and proven track record of excellence in teaching and mentoring.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Applied professional experience with one or more of the following: full stack development and/or web development, mobile app development, database management, cloud development and/or management, or the public sector.
- Familiarity with programming languages, such as Python, Javascript, C++, Java, Swift or others used for software development in data engineering, or analytics.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and student mentoring.
- Demonstrated interest in and commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
- Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the USU Statewide Campus system.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience teaching programming, software development, cloud infrastructure management, analytics, database management and/or related topics in a college or university setting.
- Strong record of student mentoring in a college or university setting.
- Familiarity with database applications and platforms for big-data applications, such as SQL or Oracle.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms.
