A Brief Overview

This role involves close collaboration with a diverse group of researchers, including physicists, clinicians, and engineers, to develop optical tools for non-invasive cerebral physiology measurements. The primary focus will be on developing hardware and software to integrate, control, and process data from various optical imaging systems, such as Speckle Contrast Optical Spectroscopy, Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging, Diffuse Correlation Spectroscopy, Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy, Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, and Optical Intrinsic Signal Imaging. Candidates should have experience with embedded system design, particularly with FPGA and System-on-Module (SoM) technology. While not required, familiarity with image processing, GPU programming, and machine learning is highly desirable.

The candidate will work closely with clinical and research staff to maintain existing equipment, develop new tools, and contribute as a technical resource within the lab. A strong background in programming, as well as electrical and mechanical principles, is essential. The role requires proficiency in using data acquisition and analysis software tailored to specific project needs. Additionally, the candidate must be adept at reading and contributing to scientific and technical literature, and be capable of collaborating with external technology vendors to ensure optimal product use. Participation in publishing scientific papers is expected.

What you will do

  • Gains intimate knowledge of translational lab research initiatives to develop new biomedical devices for the purpose of commercialization.
  • Resolves clinical and technical problems related to the safe and effective use of equipment by working with research staff, along with vendors to gain the information needed to develop and beneficial solution.
  • Assists with the testing requirements for the evaluation and validation of new medical device technologies and help with the preparation of validation documentation for commercialization
  • Provides technical leadership related to special projects as assigned by the senior lab staff.
  • Evaluates labs equipment needs and available technologies to make recommendations to lab staff.
  • Provides competent service in clinical and research setting.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical, Mechanical or Biomedical or similar field of study Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year related engineering experience. Required
  • At least three (3) years related engineering experience Preferred
  • At least three (3) years in a medical, research and academic environment Preferred
  • with basic electronics, digital data acquisition and data analysis Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel required (Required proficiency)
  • Experience with Matlab and Python (Preferred proficiency)
  • Experience in the development of test experimental test fixtures and instrumentation (Required proficiency)
  • Motivated individual who demonstrates clear ability to problem solve and advance their work independently (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to write high-quality technical publications and present their working engineering scientific forums. (Preferred proficiency)
  • Strong organization skills (Required proficiency)
