At GSK, we are using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to develop new therapies and personalized drugs that drive better outcomes for patients. We are also using AIML to revolutionize our Finance Function – by harnessing financial data to improve decision making and to streamline operations.  

Working as part of GSK’s AIML Team – which operates like a start-up organization within GSK broader R&D function – this role is split 50-50 between two key responsibilities: (i.) being a Finance Director for the AIML Team and (ii.) being a Quant Director focused on developing new AIML-enabled finance tools. Finance Partner:

In the Finance Director role, you will provide all aspects of finance partnering and leadership for the SVP AIML and their Leadership Team. The role will report into VP Finance R&D Research Tech and will be a key member of that Leadership Team. The role will, therefore, involve matrix accountabilities.

 

The Finance Director role will also lead financial planning and reporting for the AIML Team – which is an organization made up of approximately 180 FTEs, with ~£50m Opex and <£5m Capex. Scope includes financial planning, decision support, process simplification, financial management, capex, governance, and talent management.

 

Quant Director:

In the Quant Director role, you will have the opportunity to proactively identify and lead areas of improvement in Finance and in the R&D business – by leveraging the expertise of engineers in GSK’s AIML Team, as well as your own analytical capabilities.

 

Current projects under development in this space include a portfolio simulation tool – facilitating the prioritization of £5+ billion pounds of R&D projects aimed at discovering and developing new medicines. Other projects involve the use of LLMs and agents to streamline financial data analysis.

Basic Qualifications:                                                         

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • A PhD or Masters in a quantitative or engineering discipline (e.g., finance, computer science, engineering, physics, maths, among others); OR equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrated work experience in a relevant finance and machine learning position

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Demonstrated programming expertise in Python and in developing and delivering robust software solutions
  • Keenness to learn fast in a new domain and to continuously develop your ML and software engineering skills
  • Proactive communication and problem-solving, and a proven ability to collaborate with colleagues of various backgrounds and levels of seniority.
