About the role: Staff Engineer - Data Governance

• We are looking for a Data Governance Specialist to join our client’s team and build

the Data Governance, and Data Management ecosystem!

This is a hybrid role with 2 or 3 days a week of work from the office in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

What you’ll do?

• Define Engineering Roadmap: Develop and maintain a comprehensive engineering

roadmap for Data Governance, ensuring alignment with business goals and

regulatory requirements. This will cover Data Classification, Data Catalogue, Data

Quality & Observability Management, Data Lineage and Data Meta store.

• Tooling Preferences: Evaluate, select, and integrate data governance tools and

technologies, with a preference for leveraging capabilities within the Google Cloud

Platform (GCP) and other open source /commercial tools.

• Stakeholder Feedback: Engage with stakeholders across the organization to gather

requirements, provide updates, and incorporate feedback into the data governance

strategy and initiatives.

• Design and Implementation: Lead the design, development, and implementation of

data governance solutions, including data quality frameworks, metadata

management, and data lineage tracking.

• Team Leadership: Mentor and guide a small team of engineers, fostering a

collaborative and innovative environment. Ensure the team has the necessary

resources and support to achieve its goals.

• Current Landscape: Leverage existing technologies and frameworks within GCP to

build scalable and efficient data governance solutions.

What you’ll need for this role:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on data

governance and data management.• Proven experience in leading engineering initiatives and managing small teams.

• Strong expertise in data governance tools and frameworks, particularly within cloud

environments (preferably GCP).

• Excellent understanding of data governance principles, data quality, metadata

management, and data lineage.

• Experience with regulatory compliance related to data governance, such as GDPR

and CCPA.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex

requirements into practical solutions.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively

with stakeholders at all levels.

Good to have:

• Experience with GCP data services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud

Storage.

• Familiarity with data cataloguing and metadata management tools such as Data

Catalog, Apache Atlas, or Collibra.

• Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.

• Experience with agile development methodologies and DevOps practices.

• Certifications related to data governance and cloud platforms.
