Nokia
As a technology leader across mobile, fixed and cloud networks, our solutions enable a more productive, sustainable and inclusive world.Join us in creating the technology that helps the world act together
We are a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering the future where networks meet cloud. At Nokia you will have a positive impact on people’s lives and help build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and accessible world.
Be part of a culture built on an inclusive way of working where we are open to your ideas, you are empowered to take risks and are encouraged to be fearless in bringing your authentic self to work.
The team you'll be part of
Nokia Bell Labs is the world-renowned research arm of Nokia, having invented many of the foundational technologies that underpin information and communications networks and all digital devices and systems. This research has produced nine Nobel Prizes, five Turing Awards and numerous other awards.
Within Bell Labs, the "Optical Systems & Devices Research” lab investigates forward-looking research activities for the preparation of the future optical transport networks that will interconnect data centers, cities and continents. Such networks will be expected to provide ever increasing capacity, flexibility and agility at reduced costs and energy impact.
What you will learn and contribute to
The future optical fabric will offer digital services down to the physical network layer by introducing digital platforms to collect, visualize, analyze, and learn from data. It will support optical network digital twinning, which offers a virtual representation of the network to understand the network performance, anticipate issues, and meet customer expectations. Digital twin for synchronous optimizations and real-time network healing requires massive monitoring, performance predictions, local and centralized decision-making.
In this internship, you will first automate the data collection process in an optical network testbed. To this end, you will write scenarios with the researchers to discover any anomaly propagation within a network. Such scenarios will cover the use of multiple lightpaths with different modulation formats, different baud rates, etc. so as to create various network states.
Once the data are collected, you will analyze them to work towards digital twin and reinforcement learning use cases. You will study the research literature to understand the existing solutions. You will select one use case to be implemented in both simulations and experiments.
As part of our team, you will:
- Configure optical network elements to automate data collection with different network states
- Study research literature on digital twin and reinforcement learning applications
- Investigate in detail one use case
- Use simulations for training models
- Participate in lab experiments
You have:
- Background in optical telecommunications and Matlab programming (or equivalent, e.g. python, etc.)
- Eager to develop strong skills in optical networking
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for digital twin, machine learning topics
- Innovative and autonomous, you can work in a team environment and foster shared experiences
- Strong spoken and written technical English
