Job SummaryThis position is responsible for providing advanced mathematical and statistical concepts and theories to analyze and collect data and construct solutions to business problems; performing complex statistical analysis on experimental or business data to validate and quantify trends or patterns identified by business analysts; constructing predictive models, algorithms and probability engines to support data analysis or product functions; verifying model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results; designing experiments and methodologies to generate and collect data for business use. Responsible for aiding tactical decision making by using predictive and prescriptive remodeling; and extracting actionable insights by identifying patterns in structured and unstructured data.Job Description
- With minimal direction, lead efforts to:
- Collect, integrate and analyze data from sources related to health status and outcomes for our members, characteristics of health care providers, internal business processes, and other domains.
- Perform complex statistical analysis on experimental or business data to validate and quantify trends or patterns identified by business analysts.
- Select and adapt machine learning and probabilistic modeling methods to support data analysis or product functions; verify model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results.
- Design experiments and methodologies to generate and collect data for business use.
- Create visualizations, interactive analytical applications and interpretive artifacts to support business application of data science findings.
- Be accountable for delivery of analytics and data science solutions
- Coordinate with other internal delivery product teams and cross-functional teams to drive the production implementation of new capabilities
- Measure and improve the quality of analytics solutions on an ongoing basis.
- Advise business by providing data-based strategic direction to identify and address business issues and opportunities
- Maintain effective communication with management regarding development within areas of assigned responsibilities and provide leadership on special projects as required or requested
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, and customers. Model behaviors for more junior scientists
- Represent team in meetings within HCSC. Participate in cross-functional decision-making bodies internally
- Take a leadership role in identifying team knowledge gaps, identifying and then presenting learning opportunities that are strategically relevant. Tie near-term tactical knowledge needs to long-term strategic imperatives
- Independently deliver or lead the delivery of a complex analytics or data science project. Work directly with stakeholders and management to define and adhere to a project plan and key delivery dates. Lead small to moderate sized initiatives from conception to deployment. Actively engage on several initiatives, generally in lead or primary role.
- Support in the incorporation of existing predictive analytics into the Medical Economics Engine - Predictive Command Center
Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Actuarial credential or Master’s degree and 4 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR Ph.D. and 2 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field; OR 9 years of work experience in a mathematical, statistical, computer science, engineering, physics, economics or related quantitative field.

- Proficiency in at least five of the following six areas, and demonstrated mastery in at least one: 1) data analysis and relational-style query languages; 2) machine learning and/or statistical modeling; 3) data visualization; 4) a high-level programming language; 5) distributed computing; 6) understanding of healthcare.
- A track record of independently delivering or leading the delivery of a complex analytics or data science project.
- A track record of mentoring, managing, or leading junior analytics or data science staff.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
- Masters or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, or bachelor's degree with significant healthcare experience.
