Job DescriptionTokyo Electron America, Inc., a subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Limited - a global leader in the semiconductor equipment industry - is currently seeking a full-time Research Scientist or Engineer focused on thin film chemical deposition simulation and modeling, to be based in Austin, Texas, USA.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze physical equipment; use CAD to build and mesh appropriate reactor models.
- Analyze chemical processes; set up appropriate gas, surface reaction mechanisms.
- Set up, run, and analyze computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations using ANSYS, COMSOL, and other in-house software.
- Create new or modify existing programming codes that couple with simulations.
- Use simulations to optimize or troubleshoot equipment design and processes. Participate in development, documentation, and implementation of improvements.
- Conduct data analysis, generate statistics, and write reports. Create results material and present in meeting environments. Interface with internal development teams to define project strategy, timelines, and deliverables.
- Develop and maintain appropriate documentation as required. Provide colleagues with enough detail and documentation to maintain simulations and/or code.
- Train other users to any changes in code or operational procedures, new software, and new relevant engineering or scientific knowledge base.
- Research engineering issues and topics in semiconductor manufacturing, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), atomic layer deposition (ALD), and CFD simulations.
- Some domestic and international business travel may be required when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERENCES:
- Candidate must have a M.S., Ph.D., or post-graduate degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent STEM field.
- Knowledge of and experience in ANSYS, COMSOL, Siemens, and/or other equivalent CFD simulation and CFD visualization software is required.
- Knowledge of fluid dynamics and chemical reactions are required.
- Experience with Linux operating systems, scripting, HPC environments are required.
- Experience with a programming language such as C/C++, Fortran or Python are desired but not required. Other additional programming languages, scripting, statistics, and GUI programming are a plus.
- Able to work in multi-cultural team, collaborative, and independent work environments. Works as a self-learner, self-starter, and works to build consensus.
- Strong analytical ability to find solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are critical. Candidate will communicate, present, and discuss project goals, status updates, and results. Communicates difficult, sensitive, or technical concepts effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences, different disciplines, and/or business units.
- Knowledge of the semiconductor industry is desirable.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 35 pounds. This position also requires 4 to 6 hours per day at a computer screen/keyboard.
