The Office of Information Technology at the Dell Medical School is looking for a Senior EHR System Administrator, Epic Support.
The Senior EHR System Administrator at University of Texas Dell Medical School is responsible for managing and optimizing enterprise-level IT systems with an emphasis on healthcare technology, including Epic systems. This role ensures the operational excellence, security, and scalability of IT infrastructure while providing strategic advice to IT leadership. Candidates must possess advanced technical expertise, particularly in managing Epic environments and other healthcare IT platforms.
The Senior EHR System Administrator performs system planning, configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management. This includes specifications for new IT solutions, integration of systems, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Purpose
The Senior EHR System Administrator at University of Texas Dell Medical School ensures the stability and performance of IT systems by configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting servers, storage, networks, and healthcare applications. This role is pivotal in supporting Epic system implementation, upgrades, and optimization, contributing directly to the school's cutting-edge healthcare delivery and academic initiatives. Responsibilities
Epic Systems Support:
Deploy and maintain Epic IT endpoint environments, including updates, performance tuning, and optimization.
Monitor performance metrics and resolve issues within Epic and integrated systems.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to align Epic functionality with organizational workflows.
Systems Administration:
Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers (Windows, Linux), storage systems (SAN, NAS), and networking equipment.
Administer and troubleshoot Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and other critical IT infrastructure components.
Deploy and support Epic Hyperspace client, ensuring optimal functionality and user experience.
Manage virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Hyper-V, with a focus on high availability and fault tolerance.
Ensure the security and compliance of IT systems, adhering to healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Infrastructure Optimization:
Support high-performance computing environments, including hybrid cloud integration.
Manage enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring data integrity and rapid recoverability.
Optimize system performance through proactive capacity planning and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or Splunk.
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT systems, processes, and configurations.
Team Collaboration and Mentorship:
Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement technology solutions.
Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on complex issues.
Project Leadership:
Lead IT infrastructure projects, particularly those involving Epic implementations, data migrations, or system upgrades.
Work with vendors to procure, implement, and maintain hardware and software solutions.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in IT systems administration. Proficiency with enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and exposure to advanced networking (firewalls, VLANs, SD-WAN). Strong understanding of Active Directory, Windows Server, Linux, and enterprise storage solutions. Advanced troubleshooting skills for complex IT systems, including root cause analysis and resolution. Experience managing enterprise monitoring and alerting platforms such as SolarWinds, Zabbix, Datadog, or similar solutions. Proven ability to design and implement secure, scalable infrastructure solutions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts to broad audiences. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Epic IT endpoint and backend infrastructure deployment support experience. Epic certifications in one or more modules, particularly System Pulse or Technical Coordinator certifications. Experience in a healthcare IT environment with knowledge of clinical workflows and integration. Familiarity with hybrid and cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-based monitoring. Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Python, or Ansible. Understanding of ITIL processes and frameworks for incident and change management. Project management experience. Experience with advanced storage systems such as Nutanix, NetApp, or Dell EMC.
