The Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief Systems Group develops, adapts, and deploys advanced technologies to address the most significant challenges in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, global development, community resilience, and climate change. We extend rapidly evolving technical capabilities – such as remote sensing and signal processing techniques, data science, software tools, and systems analysis – to under-served mission needs across the domestic and international landscape. Recent program efforts have included:
- Integrating advanced remote sensing and situational awareness technologies in order to address large-scale disaster relief and recovery needs
- Applying novel analytical methods – including artificial intelligence and machine learning – to longstanding humanitarian challenges, especially in sparse and challenging data environments
- Creating software decision support and data visualization platforms for critical decision-making
Job Description
The Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief Systems Group is actively seeking entry-level scientists and engineers with experience in software development, AI/ML, data science, and/or robotics to assist with the implementation of technologies to address Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief applications.
Requirements

- Experience with scientific programming languages and tools (Python, MATLAB, etc.) and experience with software development practices and patterns required (version control, Linux, containerization)
- At least two years’ experience in a research, work/internship, independent-study, or similar context, in two or more of the following domain areas:
- AI/ML (deep learning, computer vision, NLP/LLMs, traditional ML, Bayesian modeling)
- Data Science (data visualization, data cleaning, database management, analytics, dashboards)
- Robotics (UAV/UGV/UUV, embedded ML on sensor data, computer vision, ROS v1 & v2, control)
- Relevant field, lab, or extracurricular experience will be well considered
- Strong technical communication required
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field
