We are actively seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join our team in Calgary. Reporting to the Team Lead, Data & Analytics, the data analyst will be responsible for supporting the Montney business unit through developing and maintaining engineering dashboards, tools and displays intended to provide technical team members (primarily engineers and geoscientists) with prompt, accurate and reliable data. With a keen attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of accurate reporting, the Data Analyst will develop and maintain business data tools, identify opportunities for workflow efficiencies using data, and to identify trends in data and assist the team to develop actionable results.

Essential Functions:

  • Design, create, and publish engineering visualization displays (such as dashboards) and reports to monitor and improve asset performance.
  • Identify and define new data process opportunities within the division.
  • Understand and optimize current operations and develop tools to track process data for analysis and metrics reporting.
  • Interpret data, identify trends, and analyze results using statistical techniques to identify potential actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with Capital Operations, Production, Development, Geology, Facilities, Reservoir and Data Analytics teams to identify, track, and visualize key metrics.
  • Identify key sources of information required and work with Data Team to expose data for reporting.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and ensure that databases/data systems are appropriately maintained.
  • Own the business data and be the key liaison for issues related to data quality and completeness.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
  • Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.
  • Contribute to data documentation and ensure adherence to data governance processes.
  • Collaborating with other engineering disciplines, domain experts, internal and external customers.

Education and Experience:

  • Post-secondary or equivalent training and experience in Data & Analytics.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience with SQL.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office Products (Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Intermediate knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Strong experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau and Spotfire.
  • Exposure to modern cloud data architecture such as AWS, Azure, or similar.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms like Databricks or Snowflake is an asset.
  • Python or R programming experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Oil and Gas industry and oil/gas datasets required.
  • Strong team working, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience in creation of dashboards, data visualization and reporting, as well as managing data sources, data cleaning and preparation.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated competence with office productivity software as well as database software development tools and concepts.
  • Prior experience in geology, production or reservoir engineering an asset.
