This role is hybrid and requires someone within a commutable distance to the Rancho Cordova office.

The Data Engineer will collaborate with data architects, application development teams, data analytics teams, and the Data Governance COE to build and test interfaces between applications, data warehouses, and third-party systems in a combination of cloud and on-premise platforms. Using ETL tools, data virtualization tools, and API engines, the Data Engineer translates business requirements at the direction of Senior Data Engineers into data interfaces, data APIs, and data pipelines to supply the data needs of the enterprise, supporting application to application integration, the data flow in and out of the data management platform and other databases, and the data access layer supplying data to end consumers, including applications and tools.

  • Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines and builds out new integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
  • Designs and develops scalable ETL packages for point to point integration of data between source systems, extraction and integration of data into various data assets, including data warehouse and fit for purpose data repositories, both on prem and cloud.
  • Designs and develops scalable data API’s to provide data as a service to microservices, applications, and analytical tools
  • Designs and develops data migrations in support of enterprise application and system implementations from legacy systems
  • Writes functional specifications for data pipelines and APIs and writes and performs unit/integration tests
  • Performs data analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues.
  • 2+ years of ETL tool experience and SQL expertise.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies.
  • Extensive expertise in Matillion, Python and Snowflake.
  • Significant experience in the healthcare domain, with familiarity in industry-specific data processes and systems.
  • Experience with or knowledge of Agile Software Development methodologies.
  • Expertise with the EBX tool, a reference data management tool.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Proven ability to grow into architectural roles, with a track record of supporting team success and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • A proactive approach to delivering high-quality results and supporting organizational objectives.
  • Familiarity with specialized technologies critical to data-driven operations and initiatives.


Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental’s assessment of the candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. 
Pay Grade 21. $80,500 - $174,300
