Compensation: The starting base salary range for a Director- Data Governance is $99,000.00 to $152,000.00. Actual salaries will vary by geographic location and are based on factors such as candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, competencies, and company tenure & equity. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan based on company performance and individual performance. 

Director - Data Governance Overview:

The Director of Data Governance provides strategic leadership and direction for the enterprise-wide data governance program. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. The Director will work closely with senior leadership, IT, and business units to drive data governance initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational goals. This position also oversees the development and implementation of data governance strategies, fostering a culture of data stewardship and accountability across the organization.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with the organization's objectives and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security
  • Lead cross-functional teams to define and prioritize data governance initiatives, ensuring alignment with business needs and strategic goals
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data governance frameworks, including data stewardship, data quality management, and data lifecycle management
  • Collaborate with IT and business units to identify and address data governance issues, ensuring effective data management practices
  • Provide guidance and support to data stewards and domain owners, helping them to fulfill their roles and responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of data governance initiatives, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing best practices
  • Foster a culture of data stewardship and accountability, promoting the importance of data governance across the organization
  • Represent the organization in external data governance forums and industry groups, staying informed of emerging trends and best practices
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of data governance principles, practices, and frameworks
  • Strong understanding of data management, data quality, and data security protocols
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing data governance strategies and policies
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address data governance issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient in data governance tools and technologies, as well as personal computer and desktop applications
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in managing complex data governance initiatives
  • Ability to stay informed of emerging trends and best practices in data governance

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 7-10 years of leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in Data Governance or Data Integration roles
  • Experience working with senior management and interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Or, equivalent military experience

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Direct experience in the insurance industry
  • 1-2 year’s experience leading managers or multiple teams
