POSITION LOCATION: 

This will be a hybrid position working out of our San Carlos, CA location. 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

We are seeking an innovative and motivated Scientist to join Natera’s Molecular Biology Research Team within the larger Molecular Biology, Informatics, and Statistics organization. In this role, you will lead and support pre-product research to drive advancements in assay technologies and expand Natera’s product portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in molecular biology and hands-on experience in designing and developing next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Participate in the design and execution of research projects focused on designing and demonstrating the feasibility of novel nucleic acid based diagnostic tests
  • Leads the planning and execution of defined assignments while contributing to the definition and refinement of overall project plans 
  • Plans and performs complex laboratory experiments following Good Laboratory Practice
  • Analyzes data to generate actionable insights 
  • Synthesizes findings and communicates results to project teams and provides regular updates at departmental meetings
  • Proposes, investigates, and implements solutions to advance research objectives and address technical challenges 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in molecular biology, genomics, or a closely related discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years of industry or postdoctoral research experience post-Ph.D.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and sample preparation methods, including DNA/RNA extraction, library preparation, multiplex PCR, and hybrid capture 
  • Strong research skills with a track record of designing and implementing innovative molecular assay methods 
  • Past experience with research and/or development of NGS assays for oncology applications is a plus 
  • Skilled in data analysis and statistical testing using tools such as Excel, JMP, R, or Python 
  • Proven success in independently executing project assignments and collaborating effectively within a team environment
  • Able to draft clear project plans, study protocols, and standard operating procedures
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.San Carlos, CA $108,800—$135,950 USD
