Role Purpose

The position will be working with AO’s Component Metrology Development team on an advanced Metrology system including hardware, python & C++ desktop applications, front end UI design, data visualization, databases, and statistics.  The intern position will be involved with developing a software feature for automated validation and testing routines to characterize statistical performance of the metrology system.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Pursuing a degree in a STEM field, including computer science, software engineering, and computer engineering.
  • Experience with software development in Python.
  • Experience or interest in working with hardware such as cameras and motors.
  • Applicants should be capable of writing robust maintainable code, unit and integration tests and be familiar with using Git.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location
  • Candidate should have a growth mindset, interested to learn skills outside of the field in CS

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Familiarity with python numerical and scientific libraries – pyqt6, Numpy, Scipy, Skimage, pandas, OpenCV. 
  • Math Aptitude – understanding of Statistics, Fourier transforms, orthogonal polynomial

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
