Machine Learning Biologist or Health Scientist

Key Role: 

Provide science and technology advisory support to our clients in health research and development (R&D), including the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Health (ARPA-H).  Support programs related to the application of data science and machine learning techniques to the field of aging, biology, or healthcare. Apply scientific and engineering subject matter to help conceptualize, create, and execute advanced government-funded research and development programs to accelerate better health outcomes for everyone. Characterize the state of a technical field, including identifying state-of-the-art technologies and promising new approaches. Perform analyses to recommend ambitious technology performance and cost targets that are on the cutting-edge of what might be achievable. Identify key technical experts across academia, industry, and national labs, perform technical outreach, and facilitate the formation of new multi-disciplinary technical communities. Review highly technical proposals and support negotiations of selected projects, including advising on project plans and technical milestones for complex R&D projects. Perform direct and periodic technical oversight of the project portfolio, from set-up to close-out and assist the client with managing projects to achieve clear and compelling outcomes.  

Basic Qualifications:  

  • 3+ years of experience with post-doctorate research applying data science and machine learning techniques in the field of aging, biology, or healthcare, including publications or in-depth work
  • Experience in statistical and machine learning techniques for high-dimensional data analysis
  • Experience in training and developing machine learning models, including addressing challenges with data quality and variability
  • Experience with longitudinal cohort studies or clinical trial data analysis  
  • Experience with biomarker discovery using omics
  • Knowledge of programming languages used in bioinformatics such as R or Python
  • Knowledge of high throughput screens and -omics analysis 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements 
  • Doctorate degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Bioinformatics, Public Health, Computer Science, or Machine Learning 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in supporting an Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) organization such as DARPA, IARPA, ARPA-E, or ARPA-H
  • Experience in searching across multiple databases, data repositories, web portals, search engines, and scientific journal platforms 
  • Experience in a consulting environment and with visualization techniques, tools, and data analytics 
  • Knowledge of aging biology, healthspan metrics, biomarkers, and application of AI in electronic health records
  • Ability to develop and convey meaningful insights, significant contributions, and recommendations to address complex client issues 
  • Ability to learn, grow, and develop new skill sets 
  • Ability to display creativity and resourcefulness 
  • Ability to ask insightful questions that challenge traditional thinking  
  • Possession of excellent data gathering, analytical, problem-solving, and client service skills
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $96,600.00 to $220,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees.
