A Brief Overview
From a senior position, and under very limited supervision, the Healthcare Information Data Scientist Sr independtly functions in an expert capacity producing innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional databases. The incumbent uses a flexible, analytical approach to design, configure, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Effectively communicates information in a way that is easy to understand for the intended audience, both technical and non-technical. Other responsibilities include documentation, training other analysts and super users, and coordination of hardware installation and support. Takes initiative and exercises independent judgment to resolve urgent problems. Acts with broad authority when necessary to resolve emergencies.Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Analyzes problems and develops solutions involving computer software programs and applications by designing programs or queries to retrieve complex data from databases in one or more programming languages.
  • Applies theoretical expertise and innovation to create or apply new technology.
  • Supports EHR and other clinical or business information system database application build and maintenance.
  • Supports EHR and other clinical or business information system application configuration such as building worklists, Boolean rules, populating masterfiles, CDM, adapting vendor model clinical documentation tools to meet MLH needs, etc.
  • Supports EHR and other clinical or business information system report build and distribution configuration.
  • Completes assigned tasks in project and/or tracking system; Ensures task assignment completion is documented as soon as the task is completed to prevent delays in a project or assignment.
  • Documents and maintains application design and build documents, including Visio workflow diagrams, build trackers and IT Service Management.
  • Participates in interface planning, design, and testing.
  • Contributes to test script creation and perform testing tasks as assigned or needed.
  • Participates in activities related to project pre-work, configuration, testing, training, activation, and post-live support and stabilization
  • From a senior perspective, identifies and plans for current and future customer requirements. Analyzes complex business and technical problems.
  • Leads Operational Workgroups and documents work completed and next steps, as assigned. Compiles and assesses user feedback, gathers requirements for application configuration, and reviews application build. Documents and communicates decisions, tasks/assignments, and deadlines.
  • Guides workflow design, building and testing systems, and analyzing other technical issues associated.
  • Works with training team to develop training materials.
  • Supports cutover and activation activities for the functional area.
  • Reviews the status of projects and issues on an ongoing basis with leaders.
  • Implements approved changes to the system. Prior to implementing changes, notifies manager or director of concerns related to approved changes based on knowledge of application and workflow.
  • Serves as a liaison between end users' workflow needs and vendor implementation staff
  • Works with vendor representatives, MLH’s clinical and business leaders, and end users to ensure the system meets MLH’s clinical and business needs in regards to the project deliverables and timeline. Maintains regular communication with vendor representatives, including participating in project team meetings.
  • Troubleshoots problems and responds to questions.
  • Develops, conducts, and/or coordinates information technology and/or information management training programs for clinical departments, medical staff, students and others as required.
  • Coordinates new services requests - network, hardware and software for assigned departments.
  • Primary support contact for application end users.
  • Provides after hours support through on call duties for critical systems.
  • Pro-actively reviews, recommends and implements data security, integrity, backup and recovery procedures.
  • Stays current on emerging information technology relevant to assigned clinical and/or business areas.
  • Responds on a 7/24 on-call basis to application and Customer problems; ensures that any problem within his/her ability to correct is addressed in a timely and professional manner.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate's Degree Computer sciences

  • Bachelor's Degree Computer sciences

Work Experience Requirements
  • 3-5 years Computer programming

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Good balance of operational experience, project management skills, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledgeable about MLH’s policies, procedures, and clinical/business operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the following: software business intelligence, data analysis data mining, compiler/decompiler, user interface, enterprise application integration, operation job scheduling and server and network monitoring.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision data models, queries, and programs.
  • Advance knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of programming, data modeling, simulation, as well as statistics and mathematics.
  • Ability to parse data in common file formats such as csv and xml files, applying regular expressions and mathematical transforming data into information.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing information concepts and methods to non-technical users.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no lead or supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position

Physical Demands
  • Subject to call back at all times. Ability to travel to any area of the organization, both local and remote as needed. Must provide own transportation.
  • Required to sit for extended periods.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
