Do you want to dive into the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment?

At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 100 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.

To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a:

Robotics Engineer Intern - AI Defect Detection (100%)
Starting date: as soon as possible

Your role:
In this role you will be at the forefront of integrating AI technologies into advanced robotics systems. Your primary mission will be to develop, train, and validate machine learning algorithms that enable the automatic detection and quantification of defects such as cracks, rust, and other structural anomalies. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, your work will contribute directly to advancing inspection capabilities in critical industries.

What you will own:

  • AI Model Development: Design, train, and refine machine learning models for defect detection (e.g., cracks, rust).
  • Data Preparation and Labeling: Work with existing datasets, or generate new ones, to ensure high-quality training data for supervised or unsupervised learning approaches.
  • Integration and Testing: Implement and integrate models into Flyability's existing software ecosystem, ensuring compatibility with hardware and system performance targets.
  • Performance Evaluation: Develop robust metrics and conduct evaluations to ensure AI models meet accuracy, efficiency, and reliability requirements in real-world scenarios.

Requirements

Your profile:

  • Experience with AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and image processing techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning workflows, including data preprocessing, model training, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Strong analytical skills, with a hands-on approach to integrating and validating AI systems on robotics platforms.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Knowledge of defect detection methods (e.g., crack detection, rust quantification) and their practical application and experience deploying of Deep Learning models on the cloud are highly valued.

Flyability is a young Swiss company that values independent thinking combined with a collaborative spirit. Every day, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and contribute to solving problems. We all work together, and each voice is important to move forward.
