Job Description

Job Overview: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer with a strong software/firmware development background to design, develop, and optimize automated systems for use in the production of Precision Optics and Glassware components in Mulgrave as well as Automated Test and Measurement Equipment needed for New Product Introductions.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Director and part of the Order Fulfilment and Supply organization, you will be an integral part of a multi-skilled team utilizing cutting-edge technologies to accelerate our manufacturing operations in the digital future.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop automated manufacturing solutions, including test and measurement equipment for new and existing products including:

  • Working with cross-functional teams (R&D, QA, Marketing, Product Support and other Manufacturing Sites) to define equipment requirements for both hardware and software.
  • Developing and supporting applications using WinForms/WPF/C#, SQL Server, web technologies, to interface with Agilent products and/or test hardware including the development of the user interface, test scripts, machine control, data generation and storage.
  • Implement and test software applications to ensure they meet quality standards. Document software designs, code and processes for future reference and compliance.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for software-related issues in the manufacturing environment.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing software applications to be compatible with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems).
  • Apply project management skills to lead the development of automated solutions and provide governance of automation/test software for the future.
  • Develop and provide guidance on IT/OT standards, design, new technologies, and architecture strategies aligned with Agilent's IT and OT framework. Align shopfloor architecture with enterprise architecture vision and principles.
  • Develop and integrate machine learning and machine vision solutions for defect detection, predictive maintenance, and quality control into production.
  • Collaborate on IoT/Industry 4.0 initiatives, connecting physical systems to Agilent’s data infrastructure in a format that allows intelligent decisions to be made based on data analytics.
  • Work with robotics and motion control systems, including servo motors, CNC systems, industrial equipment and collaborative robots (cobots).

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Automation, Control Systems, Electronics), Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development and proficiency in C#
  • Proficiency in PLCs and programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Python, C++).
  • Hands-on experience with machine vision platforms (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, OpenCV).
  • Understanding of IoT and cloud platforms, including data integration and analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

This job has a full time weekly schedule.
