Day in the life of:
CIRO is the national, self-regulatory organization responsible for oversight of Canada’s investment dealers, as well as trading activities on debt and equity marketplaces. In this role you will have an opportunity to be part of the CIRO Enforcement team which is responsible for the administration of its Dealer Member Rules and the Universal Market Integrity Rules (UMIR).
Reporting to the Manager of Market Investigations, the Senior Data Analyst, Investigations will play a key role in reviewing Enforcement’s current analytical tools and developing new tools based on existing technologies. This includes developing and implementing quantitative methodologies to enhance the investigational program and better use technologies for visualization and dissemination of information.
Core Responsibilities:
- Design and build quantitative analytic processes that provide statistical analysis of market related issues and infractions.
- Develop new tools to streamline and automate current computational processes and analytics related to all investigations.
- Perform in-depth analysis on transactions and market data to generate reports for business users.
- Assist Enforcement management in developing tools related to management information systems.
- Build visualization tools for interpretation of market participants trading strategies.
- Build training modules and educate team members on optimal use of newly developed processes.
Skills and Competencies:
- Masters level degree in the relevant fields (Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics,
- Math, Physics, Information Management, Finance, Economics) or relevant experience that heavily emphasis on analytical skills.
- The Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and Trader Training Course are considered as assets.
- Experience extracting and manipulating data using SQL from relational databases/warehouses (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access) as well as working with large scale datasets.
- Must have experience coding in programming language such as Python, JAVA, MATLAB, R for quantitative analysis or data mining. Expert in MS Excel, experience using Microsoft CRM and Office 365
- Expertise with visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
- Strong working knowledge of the functioning of the capital markets, including a deep understanding of trading systems, practices, and market activities.
- A working knowledge of trading strategies of participants and their clients, experience as a quantitative analyst of equities a definite asset.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Work well in a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
