Position Summary:
Responsible for Beanfield’s complex network database and GIS application, the Manager, GIS Applications & Automation will report to the Director of Network Planning. This pivotal role is responsible for spearheading initiative solutions that integrate geographic information system (GIS) applications and network database, with automation via Machine Learning (AI) to enhance our fibre network's planning and operational efficiency. This role involves strategic planning, team leadership, and the application of advanced analytical skills to foster informed decision-making and innovative solutions.
Role and Team Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement GIS and AI strategies to support network planning and performance.
- Manage GIS databases and ensure integration required systems to optimized fibre network.
- Transform large data models into actionable insights for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Develop and automate routine tasks through scripting aimed at reducing procedural friction.
- Development of back-office systems to optimise network design outputs and reports.
- Lead a technical team through the integration of new GIS tools and systems.
- Lead design and evaluation sessions for spatial data structures and spatially-enabled applications to enhance data quality, accuracy and proofs.
- Utilize knowledge of network transition strategies to determine optimal architecture design for new products and platforms.
- Oversee the development and implementation of data analytics and AI platforms, with an emphasis on transitioning prototypes into practical business solutions.
- Provide support and conduct quality reviews for existing geo-spatial applications, ensuring they meet our rigorous standards and business objectives.
- Evaluate current and potential applications, recommending upgrades or adoptions to improve our GIS capabilities.
- Strategically plan resource allocation to maximize team productivity and innovation in data science and AI.
- Offer strategic oversight to the AI adoption, guiding project priorities in line with corporate objectives.
- Provide regular reports to the Director of Network Planning on project progress and milestones.
- Validate the engineering quality of AI models and frameworks, ensuring they meet our standards for reliability and efficiency.
- Analysis of network designs & economic impacts of different roadmap candidate features to build business cases.
- Lead and mentor a team in advanced AI methodologies to promote continuous innovation.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Geography, Geographic Analysis, or related field, and 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong management and leadership skills with solid decision-making, problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage large databases and correlate GIS information to tabular data and vice versa.
- Experience in the telecommunication industry.
- Working knowledge of Python, Java, Prolog, Lisp, SQL, FME.
- Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Hands on experience in datamining, designing and building modern data validation routines, data persistence and DB quality control queries.
- Experience with practical application of AI and scaling AI
- Ability to manage requests for proposal (RFP)
- Proven capability to create processes and train staff
- Proficiency with toolsets such as Patch Manager, ESRI, AutoCAD, JIRA, Confluence
- Solid understanding of project management fundamentals (i.e., scope, time, budget, risk, quality, integration, resource management, etc.)
- Technically and analytically strong.
- Ability to interact and establish working relationships with internal and external customers, researchers, and application vendors.
- Managed operations of one or more production applications, delivered new features and troubleshoot failures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, Computer Science, GIS & Geomatics, equivalent or relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the telecommunication Industry.
- Working knowledge of Fibre Network is preferred.
- At least 3 years of management experience.
- Experience in software engineering is a plus.
- Strong understanding of what constitutes high-quality code and effective software engineering processes, creating an environment that fosters these principles.
- An execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating through ambiguity and delivering results.
- An ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
- You can be hands-on when needed – whether that’s writing/reviewing code or technical documents, participating in on-call rotations and leading incidents, or triaging/troubleshooting bugs.
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and algorithms that enhance the functionality and intelligence of network management and design outputs.
- Explore and analyze large datasets to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can inform the development of robust machine learning models.
- Work on feature engineering, data preprocessing, and model evaluation to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of machine learning models.
- Experience building or customizing multi-tiered applications.
- Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills (ability to write clearly and concisely).
