Overview Of Position

As Principal Product Manager - Data, you will be responsible for working with the digital product and data leadership team to drive the overall success of your product(s). You will work closely with stakeholders across all business units to further develop your digital product by identifying the product roadmap, key improvements, directing market research, generating product requirements, and developing communication strategies that will drive the greatest outcome.  As the most senior IC product role, you are operating at the highest levels and require very little oversight.  You are passionate about data as a product!

Job Responsibilities

  1. Product knowledge: Nobody understands the technology and features of the group(s) you are assigned more than you do, and you proactively learn others. 
  2. Product discovery work: Evaluate business opportunities to define and optimize the product through analysis and understanding of targeted markets, market trends, innovative technology, customer business issues and the competitive environment. Perform research via surveys, interviews, and market data to determine what the user experience should be. Gather end-user feedback from existing functionality to improve the user experience.
  3. Requirement gathering and documentation: Elicit business requirements from stakeholders and create refined documentation (i.e., epics, user stories, bugs) that define what will be built for end users. Connect these requirements to larger business value and initiatives (i.e., Epics) and organize them into backlogs. 
  4. Product strategy: Work with VP of Digital Products, VP of Data and Sr. Director of Product Management to execute product strategy. Determine product features and functions and oversee product development liaising with cross functional teams. 
  5. Prioritization: Drive the priority of application development in collaboration with key business stakeholders to deliver the highest customer and business value items first. 
  6. Communication and alignment: Ensure business stakeholders are aware of product changes. Work with these stakeholders and organizational leaders to deliver key communications to the field to increase awareness and adoption of product(s). Post regular updates on prioritized initiatives and objectives, informing on the status of feature delivery and timelines. 

Scope

No direct reports, but you will oversee/lead a strategic critical product(s) and be directly responsibility in ensuring that the objective and outcomes are met of your product(s). You will be expected to work closely with leadership and project management to determine project schedules and costs, including budget and resourcing needs. 

Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management & Development 
  • Bachelor's degree required (technical, business, design or related field) 
  • Master’s degree (technical, business, design or related field) a plus 
  • Additional certifications a plus (Agile, Scrum, Lean Six Sigma, CSPO, etc...) 
  • Domain knowledge of Data as a Product
  • Experience with analytics tools and techniques, such SQL, Data Querying, Google Analytics, Big Data Ecosystems, etc…
  • Knowledge of Data Architecture, including data platforms, pipelines, data lakes, warehouses, etc…
  • Machine Learning & Data Science awareness, including ML frameworks, models and their potential use in data products
  • Advocate for a data culture, knowing how to take data and turn it into insightful storytelling
  • Business Acumen including regulations & compliance, monetization strategies, etc…
  • Expert in establishing and strengthening working relationships with a wide range of teams (Engineering, Marketing, Contact Center, Executives, etc.) 
  • Excellent communicator with experience presenting technical topics in a business-oriented fashion to non-technical audiences 
  • Proven record of defining and delivering end-to-end, user-centered products that consider user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints and opportunities 
  • Expertise in designing customer-centered products that produce measurable results against a documented problem statement 
  • Expert in software development best practices 
  • Expert in Agile, Product Management & Development, LEAN, Scrum, Kanban 
  • Customer-centric: Deep understanding of Coach/Client desires and needs (both emerging and nascent) through direct conversation as well as working with organizational partners (e.g., marketing analytics, user research, product analytics) 
  • Translator: expert in adapting business requirements to technical requirements  
  • Critical Thinking & Analysis: expert in understanding and communicating technical decisions into business impact 
  • Data obsessed product manager 
  • Decisive: Will prioritize features and resource allocation based on a mix of technical viability, coach/client desirability, and overall feasibility 
  • EQ / Relationship Management: Expert in forming trusted partnerships across the field, the business, and the technology team 
  • Solid technical background with deep understanding and/or hands-on experience in software development and web technologies 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done 
  • Expert at working effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization (e.g., business partners, UX, product analytics)
