Job Summary

The Data Scientist – Advanced Analytics role can expect to work with cross-functional teams to build, deploy and operate statistical & analytical solutions that have direct and measurable impact to Vistra, its business and its customers.
 
Vistra is looking for a talented individual who can think independently, collaborate with different colleagues, search for ways to improve things, be proactive to learn and understand business and technology, and can iteratively develop and experiment new approaches while moving forward quickly.
 
As a Data Scientist – Advanced Analytics, you will use data creatively to solve business challenges & objectives, often uncovering new and transformative opportunities along the way. In this role, you will also apply state-of-the-art advanced analytics and modeling techniques to interpret, make inferences, and offer recommendations based on insights from the data.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • You will be reviewing and ensuring operational and business health of the existing production applications
  • You will design and develop data science approaches, applying tried and tested techniques, or developing custom algorithms
  • You will iterate and write highly optimized code
  • You will collaborate with data owners, data engineers, and platform architects to implement prototypes and robust production level solutions
  • You must be able to demonstrate business value from the models and ensure that stakeholders are aligned with the expected and actual results
  • You will deliver presentations on your analyses and build high quality documentation space
  • You will work independently at times and contribute to development of advanced analytics solutions worked upon by the team

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience building original and impactful models with one or more tools for creating predictive /machine learning/operations research models, refined via professional experience or other academic research or collaboration
  • 2+ years experience with Python, SQL and or similar statistical software
  • Experience gained through advanced graduate degree and/or certifications is applicable
  • B.S or M.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Industrial/Electrical Engineering, Operation Research or related field with 2+ years’ experience applying data analytics to real business problems

Key Metrics

  • Ability to build data science pipelines (using Kedro or other frameworks) and applications in high-level programming language, preferably Python
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, including SQL, and large-scale distributed systems
  • Practical experience and theoretical understanding of statistical tests and algorithms for ML and deep learning (regression, classification, and anomaly detection)
  • Ability & willingness to comprehend and debug complex systems integrations
  • Ability to extract meaningful business insights from data and identify the stories behind the patterns
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills that can distill complex analysis & concepts into concise business takeaways
  • Practical exposure to one productionized launch experience on complex data algorithms with learnings for issues faced and results achieved (or not achieved)
  • Optional: fundamental understanding of optimization techniques
