The Capabilities, Analysis and Development (CAD) division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding Robotics Engineer Internship opportunity for a full-time student who is currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program in or related to robotics engineering and autonomous control and wants to gain related work experience. The qualified intern will join an interdisciplinary team working on a cutting-edge project to discover and locate difficult to find targets and be able to rapidly rediscover and surveil them at a later date and time.  Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of this project, an intern may utilize and develop their skills in areas such as autonomy, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. 

This internship opportunity will begin in May 2025 after the conclusion of your spring semester, working on-site with our team at Summit Point, West Virginia.  It will conclude in mid-August before the start of your fall semester.

Required Qualifications:

  • Eagerness to learn new tools and techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and demonstrated experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Must be a currently enrolled, full-time student in a Bachelor’s Degree program or above in an engineering discipline at an accredited university (completed at least 3 years undergraduate engineering program)

Desired Knowledge Areas:

  • Research and development of autonomous systems or subsystems
  • Development with ROS, Python, PX4, Gazebo, and Microsoft Airsim, Matlab, and/or LabView
  • Configuring software in Linux environments
  • Design and operation of unmanned and/or remotely operated systems
  • Design in SolidWorks
  • Developing and troubleshooting electromechanical systems
