The Role

Do you have many years of experience working with data within a large financial services firm? Are you a curious self-starter who loves data and likes to tackle big challenges? We are looking for a Director of Data Governance to provide strong technical direction and project leadership from the business perspective to ensure that implemented technical solutions meet business requirements and priorities.  You will collaborate across multiple business groups to define requirements and then coordinate with supporting tooling teams to design, develop, implement and monitor steward and consumer related technologies. You will help to tell our team’s story to leadership and peer groups through building encompassing communication materials.  You will champion the adoption of innovative core team ideas that enable transformational change and take ownership of related results and adapt to an ever-changing environment. Your responsibilities include:

  • Working with internal business and technology partners to prioritize, define and implement a comprehensive data governance technology strategy aligned with key business objectives and regulatory requirements.  Including support to shift from a federated to hybrid steward operation and the adoption and configuration of a new data quality focused tool.
  • Developing and releasing scalable solutions that allow data stewards to conduct data inventory collection, definition, mapping efforts, support quality standards, policies and procedures to ensure strong metadata integrity.
  • Collaborating with multi-functional cross organization teams to ensure catalog tools are well documented, well trained- adopted and teams are using tools to find metadata and use lineage to solve for their business unit data needs.
  • Functioning as business / technical authority on related matters while providing regular updates to core team leadership on software, program deliverables, timelines and impact.
  • Establishing ongoing communication materials to iteratively explain our governance, quality and technology journey while highlighting success over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of dynamic experience in data management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role around data governance development initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of data governance concepts, methodologies, standard processes, with firsthand experience technically defining, implementing and communicating progress on related tools (Collibra/Alation/Attacama).
  • Proven track record of leading improvements and implementing initiatives in a complex organizational environment.
  • Excellent leadership, very strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical prowess, critical thinking skills to develop effective and scalable solutions.
  • Relevant industry data certifications, financial services, brokerage SME, development, Agile methodologies experience a big plus.
  • Relevant cross enterprise experience a big plus.

At Fidelity, our goal is for most people to work flexibly in a way that balances both personal and business needs with time onsite and offsite through what we are calling “Dynamic Working.” Most associates will have a hybrid schedule with a requirement to work onsite at a Fidelity work location for five consecutive business days per week, every other week. These requirements are subject to change at any time.

Reminder: Per the Dynamic Working Policy, approved exceptions will be reviewed annually, or when the associate accepts a new role, whichever comes first.

The base salary range for this position is $85,000-$144,000 per year.  

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
