The Position

Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than 500 employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval, and access.

Join our function Therapeutic Area and Methodology (TAM) Statistics and become part of our global methodology group. Drive user-centric innovations in trial methodology or quantitative decision science and their accessibility to our business by providing solutions to our clinical development teams.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will closely collaborate with statisticians and data scientists and provide statistical-methodological expertise and develop methodologically sound, pragmatic solutions to complex problems in clinical development.
  • You will evaluate, adapt, and enhance innovative, complex statistical methods for efficient and effective clinical trial design, analysis and decision making. By prototyping and developing ready-to-use toolkits, manuals, and trainings, you will support their implementation in clinical studies and development programs.
  • You will provide and contribute to the development of applied statistical-methodological trainings.
  • You will define and supervise the technical and scientific work of interns and students at the bachelor and master level and contribute to their professional journey.
  • You will compellingly present your insights and quantitatively illustrate their application in clinical development to both internal stakeholders and the scientific community.
  • Lastly, your expertise will be important in contributing to cross-functional working groups, industry collaborations, and partnerships with academic experts.


Requirements

  • PhD in Statistics or Mathematics or related fields, e.g. Psychology, with expertise and experience in at least one of the following areas: design of experiments, adaptive and enrichment designs, multiplicity and multiple testing, probability of success / assurance, Go/NoGo frameworks and decision making, statistical techniques for portfolio management, and joint modeling
  • Experience in the evaluation and research of statistical methodology
  • Good proficiency in statistical software languages (preferably R, Quarto, Shiny) with familiarity in implementing statistical concepts
  • Knowledge of concepts regarding data visualization and data storytelling
  • Basic understanding of clinical development is of advantage
  • Practice in providing statistical consultancy to experts from other disciplines is a plus
  • Skilled at preparing and delivering targeted training on state-of-the-art statistical concepts and methodologies with solid interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working in a cross-cultural and global environment, and fluent in both written and spoken English
