The Position
Your department
It is the vision of our department to develop next generation diagnostics for the benefit of patients in various medical fields. To this end, we work in close and continuous communication with the other departments within Roche Diagnostics R&D. The major challenge in our department is the development of highly specific and sensitive antibodies for in vitro diagnostics. We are already one of the top players in this field and intend to further expand this position. Our antibodies are used on different Roche Diagnostics platforms in large central laboratories and in the point of care area.
Your Team
You will become a member of our diverse collaborative team of highly skilled and experienced in silico and lab co-workers, from various disciplines, in the R&D-Early Development Department of Roche Diagnostics. The team focuses on developing antibodies with ultimate specificity and high affinity to tackle the increasing challenges in in vitro-diagnostics. As part of the R&D Department of Biostatistics and Data Science, you will find more than 30 other colleagues working as statisticians, physicists and bioinformaticians.
Your objectives/tasks
In a team of data scientists and top biologists you will drive the data workflow and data analysis needed for the laboratory of the future
A strong focus lays on the automated data recording and automated reporting for a multitude of complex laboratory setups
You will use actual machine learning / deep learning methodologies to assist the colleagues in the laboratory to find the ideal antibody in a short time
You will design novel algorithms to improve and speed up the experiments involved in the antibody development process
You will collaborate and coordinate with internal project teams and experts to test these algorithms
You will maintain and expand on existing databases of antibody data
The ideal candidate
You have university degree in bioinformatics, data science, (bio-)physics, mathematics, informatics or related subjects
Expertise in machine learning and data analysis
Solid programming skills in either Python, Perl, R, Java or similar languages
Experience with data visualizations tools such as Tableau or Spotfire
Experience with databases (Oracle, SQL)
Profound knowledge in multivariate analysis, dimensionality reduction methods and modern classification methods
Experience using common machine learning / deep learning frameworks (tensor flow, torch, keras) is of advantage
A strong interest in antibodies and immunology is recommended
Team player spirit: you enjoy working in a highly motivated team of experts
Presentation skills: you are used to present yourself and your work in English in a clear and convincing way
This position is limited to 2 years.
