We’re actively seeking a talented Sr Data Quality Engineer to join our Pacific Life Data Team in Newport Beach, CA reporting to the Director, Data Governance & Data Quality.

  • This role is hybrid. We believe in empowering our employees to get work done both in and out of the office. 

The Sr Data Quality Engineer role is a strong functional and technical role with skills in the Data Quality including, data quality and observability framework, data profiling, quality assurance methodologies and tools providing services and solutions aligned with overall Pacific Life’s Data Management strategy.

As a Sr Data Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and improvement of the Pacific Life data quality and observability framework, tools. This individual will partner closely with the Data Team, Business stakeholders and other Data Management verticals to contribute to the Pacific Life’s Data Strategy to drive improvements in data quality, efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience.


How you’ll help move us forward:

  • Lead the roadmap, approach, and socialization of Data quality processes to drive our division’s Data Quality strategy forward.

  • Define the data quality standards and rules and disseminate this information out to the business and technical communities who will be capturing and creating metadata.

  • Analyze data and partner with domain owners, data stewards, and other business and IT stakeholders to ensure data quality is per business need and provide insights on health of data.

  • Enhance and support DQ application as technical lead.

  • Collaborate across business and technical associates to identify and resolve data errors/issues, escalating material issues that could impact business decision-making.

  • Implement data quality and observability framework and utilize data quality tools and techniques to help ensure that data accuracy is appropriate for the intended business use. Facilitate and ensure that business rules are maintained, and data anomalies are resolved appropriately.

  • Play a leading role within project teams in the development and deployment of Data Quality process improvement deliverables using the lean methodology.

  • Intersect process requirements to Data Quality technology needs and business value measurements by identifying KPIs and build dashboards for DQ Insights.

  • Act as the focal point for Divisional and Analytics business partners, who are driving data strategy and requirements.

  • Support effective communication and training for data quality process, tools, and measurements.


The experience you bring:

  • Minimum of 6+ years of professional Data Quality and governance experience that covers standards and policies, data error resolution, and data quality practices including data profiling and data quality monitoring.

  • 5+ years of experience defining and establishing data quality processes within an enterprise that covers domains such as customer, finance, and compliance.

  • 3+ years’ experience using a Data quality tool, Prior experience selecting and implementing a Data quality/data observability framework and toolset.

  • Experience with Cloud computing software and leading ETL and orchestration technologies with clear understanding of ETL process

  • Deep experience in a data management practices and data quality management tools including ML based observability tools.

  • Demonstrates understanding of business and data strategy and how it’s connected to Data Quality.

  • Demonstrates experience with metrics gathering, tracking, and reporting.

  • Experience working on complex business/technology initiatives within and across multiple verticals/domains.

  • Ability to analyze complex data issues and determine appropriate policies, standards, and solutions to enhance the experience for data users.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent field

Soft Skills

  • Strong written communication skills including experience drafting policies and procedures.

  • Strong Stakeholder management, relationship building skills, demonstrated consultative approach, and influencing skills is a must.

  • Demonstrated project management skills.

  • Highly self-motivated, willingness to take personal risk and detail oriented.


What makes you stand out:

  • Experience in Data Quality tools such Informatica Data Quality, Monte Carlo will make you stand out.

  • Data management experience in the Financial Services Industry

  • Familiarity Data transformation tools like Matillion,, DBT data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI are a plus.

  • Intermediate skill set in Python, AWS, SQL, CI/CD practices.

  • Knowledge of data warehouse, data lakes and other associated technologies

  • Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) or Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), AWS certifications

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$118,800.00 - $145,200.00
