This is a hybrid role.  The first three months are fulltime in the office.

As a member of Eversource’s Advanced Modeling and Forecasting team, you will help to influence, to shape, and to optimize billions of dollars of grid investments over the next decade, ensuring our safe and effective transition into a clean energy future while providing highest standards of reliability and resiliency. The team strives for "best in class" data, analytics, and application practices, to help Eversource build the most advanced Distributed Energy Resources (DER) forecasting in the nation from the ground up.

As a Data Scientist, you will specialize in Distributed Energy Resources (DER) forecasting and power system impacts with a focus on emerging technologies (PV, EV, heat pumps). You will work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement advanced forecasting methodologies. By building a best-in-class electric distribution system analytics hub for actionable insights, you will drive strategic decision-making; around capital infrastructure investments, regulatory and rate case engagements, reliability and resiliency investments, and more. Your team members are other data scientists and engineers who develop forecast models for electric vehicles, heat pumps and other new load and generation resources to inform Eversource’s capital investments.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, use, maintain and manage models and solutions for forecasting long term load, solar and storage, building and transportation electrification

  • Collect, preprocess, and analyze historical load and generation data to calibrate and validate forecasting models, ensuring accuracy and reliability across different DERs

  • Monitor and evaluate performance of forecasting models and identify inconsistencies and improvements

  • Conduct research and stay abreast of developments in emerging technologies, regulatory policies and best practices for modeling energy demand and generation

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams, including engineers, data scientists, analysts, and energy efficiency experts to integrate advanced forecasting into system planning and operations

  • Provide technical expertise and support internal stakeholders, external partners and customers on DER forecasting, power systems analysis, and renewable energy integration

  • Clearly document advanced forecasting efforts and work with other departments to integrate new and existing processes

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Experience in forecasting with a focus on energy demand and DER applications

  • Proficient programming skills in one or more languages (e.g. Python, Spark, SQL)

  • Cloud architecture and tools, such as Microsoft Azure and Databricks

  • Familiar with predictive analytics and statistical modeling techniques in the context of power systems, load forecasting, and renewable energy

  • Familiar with distribution engineering and system planning processes

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work in a cross-functional environment

  • Problem solving skills to analyze complex engineering data and draw actionable insights

Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or related quantitative field.

  • Masters preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of related experience as a data scientist. Advanced/additional degrees will require fewer years of experience.

The ideal candidate will have experience with:

  • Experience working with time series data, PI SCADA systems, DER management platforms and/or AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure)

  • Geospatial tools, data and models (e.g. ArcGIS, Google Earth)

  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, grid integration considerations related to DERs

  • Experience in power systems engineering, energy modeling, or related fields
