$19.96 - $27.94

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Regularly provides routine technical support for research activities and/or laboratory support. Applies full range of experience and previous job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs. Assists with the design of new experiments, multimedia sampling, maintenance, operation and calibration of scientific monitoring equipment for research projects. Responsible for general data collection and assisting with analysis, recruiting participants, and may support and assist other technicians.


To provide research support for bioinformatics data analysis on research conducted within the Center for Pediatric Biomedical Research. The analyses of results achieved from this position will be utilized to better understand the function of macrophages and erythroid cells, and of the hematopoietic system in general, as these cells function during steady state and disease. These analyses also will serve as an invaluable tool in the publication of papers in scientific journals and submission of grant proposals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bioinformatics data processing and analysis

- Process raw data from single cell RNA (scRNA) and bulk RNAseq experiments. Normalize data and perform initial characterization of results in terms of quality of input material, and primary findings.

- Optimize normalization methods, determine which methods best reflect biology of the cell types being analyzed. Integrate proprietary data with select public data sets of similar cells. Provide insights into biology of cells and suggest testable hypotheses from results predicting functions of known and novel cell types.

Laboratory Responsibilities

- Attend lab meetings to present and discuss data. Assist lab members with bioinformatic analysis. Suggest and discuss additional analyses and experiments. Write up results and assist with figure generation and publication preparation.

REQUIREMENTS:

- Associate's degree in appropriate discipline plus 2-3 years specialized experience in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

- Familiarity with R, RStudio, Seurat, DEseq2, ggplot, function writing, Python, Advanced undergraduate classwork in Biology, cell biology, data science preferred.

- Ability to work effectively with individuals across all job levels. Flexible in approach and appreciates the demands of a fast-paced, constantly evolving division.

- Cross platform computer skills, Microsoft Office suite
