The Opportunity
The Senior Data Scientist is within our Infectious Diseases business unit located in San Diego, California. This role is on-site daily, remote is not an option.
This is from the division that developed at record time a molecular test within minutes for Covid-19 at the heights of the pandemic, we are looking for talented AI/ML and Data Scientists to develop the next breakthrough tools that will alter the way we work and expedite that time to result across various products in our division.

This is a key technical role in our growing AI team contributing to the design and development of our instrument platforms within the Instrument Software & Systems organization. The right candidate for this position will be an experienced Data Scientist who has demonstrated success in leading AI projects and initiatives that support continuous improvement in R&D, Operations, and Commercial teams.

What You’ll Work On
Drive and develop AI technologies and solutions that provide transformational impact to the functions of our business.
Develop statistical and machine learning algorithms to meet complex product requirements. Your tasks will include defining hypotheses, executing necessary tests and experiments, evaluate, tune and optimize algorithms and methods always with an eye towards implementation ease, scalability, and robustness in a live environment.
Work closely with stakeholders from Product Management, Engineering, and other business stakeholders to create impactful, intelligent features and products.
Collaborate closely with other team members including other Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Engineers and “own” the end-to-end process.
You will be given wide authority to develop creative model-based solutions but will also be held to high quality and accountability standards.
You will mentor and train more junior team members and serve as a go-to expert in your area of statistics and machine learning.
Thoroughly and diligently document the model design, experiments, tests, validations, and live metrics and outcomes. You may be asked to write documents for use in the preparation of intellectual property and technical publications.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Mathematics/Physics), Information Systems, or related field.
8+ years’ industry/academia experience in Data Science.
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering (Mathematics/Physics), Information Systems, or related field.
Deep grounding in machine learning techniques including regression methods, classification, Neural Networks, Deep Learning, as well as knowledge of clustering and unsupervised learning, time series forecasting and optimization methods.
Knowledge and experience in developing RAG systems using Azure or other platforms. Integrate with LLMs for improved performance.
Rigorous academic or experiential knowledge of the mathematical essentials for Data Science.
Develop and maintain a web portal for user interaction.
Technical experience in building intelligent data products, prediction models and recommendation engines using ML/AI.
Solid foundation with development of data analytics systems, including data exploration/crawling, feature engineering, model building, performance evaluation, and deployment of models.
Proficient with programming in Python, and other languages such as R, Java, and C++. Excellent skills and deep knowledge in Python and object-oriented programming is a must, including common Python libraries.
Hands-on experience handling large and distributed datasets.
Strong database skills and experience, including experience with SQL programming.
Experience with Azure or other cloud-based tools and technologies for data pipelining, model development, and deployment.
Excellent skills in tools like Azure ML SDK, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Spark, or related technologies.
Experienced in database design and architecture principles and strong SQL abilities.

The base pay for this position is
