Salary/Position Classification

  • $18 hourly, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

The Corrections Research Lab is seeking undergraduate and graduate student researchers to join a collaborative team of scientists working on various projects that include but are not limited to:

  • The culture and wellbeing within Departments of Corrections
  • The mental health of correctional officers
  • Reentry challenges encountered by returning individuals
  • North Dakota reentry collectives and initiatives
  • Prison education

Some of these projects are funded by grants therefore the lab has an overarching focus on the acquisition and management of grant funded projects.

The purpose of this position is to offer students practical experience in conducting research and to enhance their understanding of methodologies and ability to critically think. This position will help develop valuable skills, such as data analysis and literature review preparation and writing and provide mentorship and networking opportunities. This position allows students to explore career paths, contribute to academic knowledge, and prepare for graduate school. Additionally, students experience tremendous personal growth by being intellectually curious, persistence, and utilizing their problem-solving abilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect and organize data from various sources
  • Assist in designing research instruments and protocols
  • Administer surveys, interviews, or other data collection methods
  • Input and manage data in databases or spreadsheets
  • Analyze data using statistical software or other tools
  • Prepare graphs, charts, and other visual representations of data
  • Draft sections of research reports, articles, or presentations
  • Assist with the preparation of research presentations or posters
  • Attend and participate in research team meetings and conferences
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards and protocols
  • Manage and organize research materials and equipment
  • Assist in grant writing or funding applications
  • Perform other administrative tasks as needed to support the research project as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Majoring in a social sciences field
  • At least 1 calendar year of coursework remaining before graduation
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 1 credit for the employed academic semester
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successfully completed a research methods and statistics class, earning an A or B
