Director, Data Governance Operations Lead Global R&D (m/f/x)
The Position:
Data Quality and Governance is a relatively new competency in Daiichi Sankyo (DS) and as such is rapidly changing, evolving and growing. Data governance consists of leading, guiding, influencing, and assisting business functions in various ways that improve data quality and consistency, democratize data in a secure and compliant manner, and encourage and empower business data stewardship. Ultimately, data quality and governance need to support management goals.
This is a Director level position and a highly visible role that will be responsible for operationalizing data quality and governance across DS Global R&D by formulating, leading, and delivering initiatives that accelerate data quality and governance across DS Global R&D, with a primary focus on the pharmaceutical development life cycle, including clinical trial execution, feasibility and site selection, data management, biostatistics, regulatory submissions, drug supply, patient recruitment and retention, and other areas of development operations. The candidate must have deep experience in some of these areas and broad familiarity with different facets of pharma development. The position also requires strong understanding of data architecture, data management, and data governance in the pharmaceutical context. The ability to collaborate, influence, and lead across Daiichi Sankyo globally are critical to success, as are excellent communication and facilitation skills and the ability to multitask across different types of inter-related data governance initiatives. A “servant leader” mindset and “forever learning” attitude are important.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Align data quality and governance initiatives with business priorities and management goals
- Analyze data and processes to determine data lineage/lifecycle, data standards and rules, data ownership, data trust, and data quality and consistency
- Define data standards, policies and procedures
- Define business glossaries in consultation with subject matter experts
- Create data catalogs
- Lead initiatives to define, measure, monitor and improve data quality and consistency across business processes and systems
- Define and harmonize reference data, data standards, and data policies across business functions, systems, and processes
- Implement and operationalize master data management solutions
- Lead data stewardship teams and efforts
- Assess data quality; develop and support tools required to measure and monitor data quality using technology platforms such as Tableau, Collibra, and Ataccama
- Lead discussions and facilitation sessions with stakeholders and subject matter experts (SME) at all levels to develop consensus
- Develop and follow methodologies needed to improve data quality, consistency, and democratization
- Assume business ownership of IT-driven initiatives as needed
- Develop the necessary documentation and other collateral; manage team sites and portals
- Assist in defining strategy, roadmap and plans for improving data quality and governance across global R&D
- Identify and assist with/lead opportunities to assess, measure and monitor data quality and standardization in business and IT programs, processes and systems
- Develop strong working relationships and collaborate with colleagues at all levels
- Develop standards, guidelines, and best practices for R&D data quality and governance
- Assist with project planning and execution
- Lead internal and external resources as needed
- Create educational and informational material and other documentation as needed
- Develop subject matter expertise in R&D data quality and consistency; influence, educate and guide others in the theory and practice of data quality and governance
- Perform other work-related tasks as required
Education & Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with STEM specialization; master’s degree preferred; exception can be made for exceptional candidate
- Minimum of 15 years of experience working in data- and analytics-related positions, with at least 10 years’ experience working in data quality and governance
- Minimum 10 years’ experience working in pharmaceuticals, health sciences or healthcare industry
- Strong conceptual and practical understanding of data quality, integrity, and consistency in business processes and systems, and how to measure, improve and monitor these
- Good understanding of data governance tools and techniques such as master data management, reference data management, business glossaries, data catalogs, metadata management, data lineage, data quality, etc.
- Strong business process and data analysis skills
- Ability to multi-task and lead multiple simultaneous initiatives
- Ability to lead and facilitate group decision-making at all levels, e.g., to define requirements, define business terms and definitions, etc.
- Ability to guide and influence stakeholders at all levels
- Support business users and colleagues with training, handholding, etc.
- Strong understanding of SQL and data analysis using Excel and other tools (e.g., Alteryx, PowerBI, Tableau). Experience of writing SQL, building reports or visualization is a strong plus
- Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to explain complex concepts to all levels of attendees
- Some understanding of AI, machine learning, NLP and GenAI is a plus
