William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time position of Data Scientist/Data Analyst in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Assessment, and Planning. This position can be filled at the Senior or Junior level, contingent upon qualifications and experience.
The of Data Scientist/Data Analyst plays an integral role in fulfilling the office’s mission to support continuous improvement through actionable information to facilitate evidence-based strategic decision-making. The position works collaboratively with IE staff and the wider University community.
Responsibilities include:
- Extract and analyze institutional data from multiple sources for reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Conduct analyses and explore data for insights to support integrated planning, student success, and institutional effectiveness.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations of data and information to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders and provide actionable information.
- Enhance data management practices to ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
- Work collaboratively with institutional data stewards to understand functional business processes and standards.
- Perform other duties as appropriate and requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a data/analytics field. A master’s degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. Four years of experience required for appointment at the Senior Scientist/Analyst level.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience with SAS, SQL is required. Knowledge of R a plus.
- Experience with ERP data systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in data management. Experience with data governance necessary for appointment at the Senior level.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Detail-oriented, with a keen ability to focus on both specific details and overarching goals of projects.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Familiarity with benchmarking and key performance indicators in higher education is preferred.
Salary Range
Starting salary range for Junior Data Scientist/Data Analyst: $71,214.38 - $74,534.83
Starting salary range for Senior Data Scientist/Data Analyst: $81,688.72 - $93,230.21
